Time needed to transfer from Le Havre ferry to Portsmouth railway station
I will be coming in from Le Havre at 4.30pm and want to reserve ongoing train tickets to Waterloo London in advance. Does anyone know how much time I should allow for immigration, disembarkation and transfer to train?

Why are you booking?
There's no advance booking discount on most fares within 100 miles of London, and the equipment used between London and Portsmouth rarely allows seat reservations.
You may have discovered advance booking discounts on this route, but I've never found any real alternative to the walkup offpeak fare of £28.
With trains at least every half hour, I can't see why you're creating another thing to worry about. Just get off the boat, walk across to the station and buy a ticket

Thanks for that flanneruk. I actually said book when I meant purchase the ticket but I take on board what you say. I suppose the reasoning behind buying in advance was to avoid the ticket counter in case there were many people from the ferry doing the same thing. I'd still like to have some idea of transfer time in order to let our London hosts know when to expect us.

The majority of passengers on this ferry will be travelling with their own cars. Only a handful will want to travel on from Portsmouth by train.
You may find the website www.portsmouth-port.co.uk helpful when sorting out connections. There appear to be direct coach connections from the ferry port to London, which might suit your needs better.

The ferry terminal is about a mile from Portsmouth & Southsea station. The only delays I've ever encountered are in waiting for a taxi.
One hour between the arrival of the ship and train departure should be enough. The trains are every half hour. Portsmouth Harbour station is slightly further from the ferry, but there are no stairs to the platform and it's the end of the line so you have more time to board the train before it leaves. Both stations have places to buy coffee, etc.
