Time line returning hire car Avignon

Can anybody give me an indication of the time line returning a hire car. We will be getting a 10.09am train from TGV Avignon. Is there a Hertz within walking distance of the TGV Station. We will driving from Uzes.
How long before the train departure time should we be there?

Thanks

Lyn, I've driven several times from Uzès to Avignon TGV and returned a rental at the station. If I had a 10:09 train, I'd leave Uzès no later than 8:00. That would allow time to drive to Avignon, fill the tank, and return the car to the Hertz office. (There is a petrol station on your right hand side on the Rocade Charles de Gaulle immediately before the roundabout for the TGV station. The Hertz office itself is on the south side of the TGV station. Bear right as you approach the station, follow the signs for rental cars, and the road will take you around to the far side of the station.) You will have time to return the car, buy a sandwich to eat on the TGV, 'compost' your ticket, and walk up to the train tracks.

If you're concerned about making a wrong turn and want to allow a bit of extra time, leave Uzès at 07:30.

Have a great trip.

Thank you that is more than helpful, exactly what I needed to know. You have helped me out here before and I really appreciate your detailed advice.

Hello again, Lyn. I just remembered one other detail that may help you out.

On your way back from Uzès, you will approach Avignon on the Pont d'Europe, which crosses the Rhône. Be sure to be in the right-hand lane. Exit to the right at the end of the bridge. There's an overhead sign, but I remember what it says, probably "Cavaillon."

Here's the tricky bit. That exit road curves back immediately towards the river and you will suddenly be presented with a choice of veering right or left. Right takes you northwards along the river into Avignon. You want to go left, southwards, which will put the Rhône on your right hand-side. You will soon after go under a railway bridge and start to see signs for the TGV station.

Hmmmm .... that should be "I can't remember."

Thanks Anselm,
Maybe you could help me with one more question as I know once before you advised me re taking train Nimes vs Avignon. So we are now taking it from Avignon to Paris. However we are flying into Nimes via Ryanair. I can see the airport is south of Nimes(Garons) and hopefully we will collect our car there. Since we will have a few hours to fill in till we can get into our apartment in Uzes, I was wondering, since Arles isn't too much further south whether that is an easy drive for lunch and look around before getting back to Nimes. I have checked on Mappy.com but just wanted a personal view.

Thanks Lyn

Lyn, we've had the same issue a couple of times--how to fill in a few hours between picking up the car and moving into a rented house.

Arles would be an easy run from Nîmes. It's about 25 kilometres down the A54, so you'd be there in less than half an hour. There are lots of wonderful little cafés in Arles, perfect for lunch.

You'll probably want to stock up on provisions for your apartment. There are lots of specialty stores in Uzès itself, but there is a huge Carrefour (a supermarket) just a couple of kilometres south of Uzès as you approach on D981. The store is on your left hand side at a small roundabout.
