Time in Germany...ideas needed!
Okay, I will be traveling from Krakow to Munich on the last days of my trip via train (taking a flight out of Munich). Since the train ride is approximately 16 hours, I would like to shave a couple days off my trip elsewhere and see Germany. Now, I was wondering if anyone has any good spots to see? It would be a 2 day stopover max. Is that enough time to see Berlin? Should I skip Berlin and go elsewhere on the way to Munich? Frankfort? Somewhere else? Any ideas would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

You haven't indicated your areas of interest when travelling, or what route your train takes, but ..
Berlin is a prime target for you to get a taste of Germany, and admittedly not too far from Krakow, butit is also taking you away from Munich. However, the trains down to Munich from berlin only take around six and a half hours at a cost of between 85 and 105 Euros, so you are better off that way. If you want to stick to your original plan then the best places to break your journey in Germany would be Nuremberg or Regensburg. (That sixteen hours sounds like a misprint) Harzer |
I have no helpful ideas, but am also curious about how a 16 hour train ride came about (not a criticism, meant most kindly). Are you wanting to break-up that 16 hours, or find a place to visit at the end?

A quick look at bahn.de indicates that the quickest route from Krakow to Munich is through Vienna (12:19 is the shortest connection and that allows an hour to change stations in Vienna). Vienna might be an excellent stopover point (about 7 hours from Krakow to Vienna and about 4.5 from Vienna on to Munich).

Thanks everyone! I got the 16 hours from the bahn.de website, however I must have calculated wrong. LOL. The reason why I am going from Krakow to Munich is that it is the last leg of my trip. My trip goes in a circle from Munich-Salzburg-Vienna-Budapest-Prague-Krakow-Munich. So I only get to spend time in Munich and no other part of Germany. Do you think that Berlin would be a good stopover then? Even if it is just to break up the train trip and spend about 2 days there? Can I see the most important things in 2 days? Thanks for your help.

I would go to Nurmburg instead of Berlin, with the ICE train, it is approximately 1 hour or I would go south to the Bavarian Alps to Fussen and perhaps tour either Neuschwanstein or Linderhof.

Thanks misscarol! I will certainly look into those places! :o)
