Time at Cluny Museum and Pantheon?
 

Putting together my Paris itinerary and trying to figure out how much time to allocate at the Cluny Museum and Pantheon.

I LOVE history so I will probably try and see as much as I can but I do move quickly (I'm a quick reader at the best of times and wander while I do audio-tours).

With that in mind, would say 2-2.5 hours at the Cluny and 90 minutes at the Pantheon be sufficient?

I would say 2 max at Cluny and 45 minutes at Panetheon unless you want to ponder every single thing.

Cluny is one of my favorite Paris museums, but I have not been there since their remodeling. The Middle Ages collection and the Roman Bath ruins and any special exhibit take the usual museum time. Previously, 2 hours would be fine, unless they are doing a medieval music concert on a Saturday, which are well worth it and would increase your time there. Allow more time if you are going to spend extra time being fascinated by the magnificent Lady and the Unicorn tapestries. If you are into picnic lunches and the weather is nice, there are small parks with benches in back of and in front of the building which are great places for one, although it looks like one of them may be closed as per the website.

We visited the pantheon once. All I remember is a bit of the building structure.

We're slow sightseers, so I'd go with your estimate... 2-2.5 hours at the Cluny, esp. if a temporary exhibit is of particular interest, and 90 minutes at the Pantheon, esp. if you intend to climb to the dome for the amazing views. If you have any spare time, slip into the Saint Etienne du Mont church across the street from the Pantheon. It has a stunning interior., some amazing sculptural/decorative elements and beautiful stained glass windows.

Some people might like to spend a huge amount of time at the Cluny depending on their interest in medieval times. The Pantheon can be done expeditively unless you are mesmerized by the crypt., which happens to some people. The climb up the dome is definitely worthwhile, but your time up there is limited by the guide.

Cluny is a museum, Pantheon (for most people) is an ice cream and a photo from the elevated platform in front. I've been twice, once in passing and apart from noting the good use of perspective It felt a bit like visiting the tomb of a mass-butcher.

Thank you all for your responses! I think my estimates should be ok based on your feedback. I’m hoping to fit the Cluny and Pantheon in before starting a food tour in the early afternoon and I think I should be able to manage, hurrah!

The Cluny Museum is stunning, probably the most beautiful museum in Paris.. It is small, so, one hour is plenty. If you love Art, do not forget the Rodin Museum, unknown to most French people.

We always return to the Rodin Museum every time we are in Paris.

Why would you make such a claim?

Kerouac, that poster has just appended one liners of little value to a bunch of threads. Ignore them.

As for spending only an hour in Cluny, that is a drive by shooting that might as well be skipped. (I'm grumpy today, so you can ignore me, too.)

I'd spend as much time as I could squeeze in at the Cluny . . . and if that means skipping the Pantheon, so be it. Except from the view up top, I find the Pantheon cold (not in temps - but that too) and a bit off putting. Pretty dreary really (again, except for the view from the platform). It may be my least favorite 'attraction' in all of Paris.

Thank you all for your replies! I am going to try get to Paris the night before and will have that whole day freed up so I will be doing the tour in the morning and then going to the Cluny so I won't be constrained on time :)
