Tiles in Provence?
Message: Reposting under France topic....still learning! While we are inFrance I would love to buy some local tiles. Are there any particlar areas to go to, and are the designs different in different areas? Are antique tiles availabel int he antique shops?

Salernes, just north of Cotignac & Lorgues, and south of Aups in the Var (east of Aix) is a tile center. Their market day is Sunday, so some of the tile stores are open then. There is also a tile store just outside Grimaud, on the road to St Tropez.

There's a nice little ceramic store in Uzès, just off the main square in the old part of town, that sells nice tiles.

there's actually no france forum, just the one for europe.

In Moustiers-Sainte-Marie (in Haute Provence), which is known for its faience, I bought a very pretty tile in a pattern that is typical of the region. The mountain village is worth a day trip, regardless; have lunch or dinner at Restaurant les Santons, overlooking a stream of water running down the mountain.

Santons is wonderful. So many places to return to.

I'm glad someone asked the tile question. I always think of tiles as being from Spain, Mexico, Portugal. I love tiles (but that's a whole other long story). Grandmere, I'm glad to hear they sell them in Moustiers. If we have lunch at Les Santons, will our tummys have room for our (more or less mandatory) dinner at our hotel?
