Tiles from Spain?
 

My son is building a harvest table and has asked us to bring back 4-5 tiles to inlay into it...We'll be in Barcelona, Seville and the white villages. Any suggestions for a good selection of tiles? Thanks.

You might want to look in antique shops. We found some "old" tiles--probably from the first quarter of the 20th century--which still had the cement on the back. They represented different activities such as fishing, crushing grapes, etc. done in an 18th century style. We found them in Seville.

I found some tiles at the flea market in Barcelona. The market was held in front of the church as I recalled. Several vendors had some for sale. Mine have the cement on them as well and look to be a few decades old.
You may look at some home furnishing stores. That's where I found some in Paris last year, Printemps, I believe.

Of the places you mention, Seville is the most likely to have a good selection of tiles.

And if I were to buy at a flea market etc. what should I expect to pay? What sizes? Thanks.

I don't recall seeing a flea market in Seville, but then I wasn't looking for one... And I didn't buy any tiles, so I can't help with prices.

There are basically three parts of Seville to shop in:
1. Calle Sierpes and the surrounding streets (which is where the Sevillanos do their shopping)
2. The Barrio de Santa Cruz, near the Alcazar (an area that most tourists visit)
3. Triana (the former gypsy quarter; it might be your best bet as far as prices go, but care should be exercised, particularly after dark)

I'd do the shopping in Sevilla's Triana district. There are some fabulous shops. My favorite was Cerámica Santa Ana (San Jorge #31-Plaza del Callao). Prices will be much lower here than on Sierpes or in the Barrio Santa Cruz tourist shops. By the way, these shops are closed on Sunday.

My wife bought some great tiles in Triani..... and guess who had to carry them all over the rest of spain !!
They and the ones from Portugal are now part of a feature behind our BBQ, nice memories.

Seville does have the long standing "Jueves" flea market (on Thursdays, of course!)
I wasn' looing for tiles, but saw all sorts of interesting "stuff"
