Tide to Go
Hi,
Does anyone know if the following items can be taken in a carry on or if they are considered to be liquids: Tide-to-Go "pens" Shout wipes Both are stain removal items. Thanks |

If the answer isn't there, call them directly toll-free 1.800.887.1895. They know everything! |
However, it's possible your TSA agent won't be up on these fine distinctions. I would just check these items.
|
Willtravel, I was assuming that the op was trying to avoid checking bags, as I am planning to do. (Which is why I'm also planning to make a quick stop at an Italian pharmacy for shampoo, toothpaste, etc. -- unless my business class Lufthansa flight provides me with what I need!)
|
In the toss-out bin when we went through SFO or JFK security two weeks ago there were several "Tide-to-Go" pens, so it seems they are not making it through.
|
I've taken the shout wipes through at least 10 flights or so in the past three weeks with no issues.
|
BAA has a really complete FAQ section on their website. I also love the way they're so polite ("No, unfortunately, we cannot allow you to take your half-consumed bottle of Schnapps on board with you, but we understand your desire to do so.") http://www.heathrowairport.com/porta...0036821c0a____

A friend had to ditch the Tide-to-go pen on a recent trip. I don't, however, know if it would now be allowed under the revised TSA rules that were released today.
|
And regardless of what the TSA people say, check with the airline you are flying. In some cases, their carry-on restrictions are tighter than those of the TSA.

"...regardless of what the TSA people say, check with the airline you are flying. In some cases, their carry-on restrictions are tighter than those of the TSA."
Very true, Jean (unfortunately -- since the basic TSA rules are pretty relaxed now!). Which is why I called Lufthansa. Sorry about the url, JAgirl, I'm pretty much of a techno-moron. |
Hmmm, I have yet to need "stain removal" while traveling.

Not sure how this even comes into play. I've never seen airline personnel inspect any of my carry on bags - TSA mans the security checkpoints. |

Good call, suze. Somehow, I just don't worry about a lot of stuff when I travel -- that is, once I'm doing it. [I worry way too much pre-trip, I know.:-( ] I think that's one of the things I love so much about travelling: your priorities straighten out right quick (and if they don't, you can be in for a bumpy ride!) |
J62- You may now find secondary screenings by TSA personnel of carry-on baggage just before you board the plane. And they most certainly DO look in your carry-ons.
|
LucieV- Yup, should I have a terrible spill of some sort I'd simply rinse it out in the sink or not use that item of clothing again on the trip. I'm just not a big Tide Pen, Fabreeze, Shout Wipe, hand sanitizer, room deodorizer kind of person I guess... Suze
|
J62- Oops I apologize, I miss read your posting. You are obviously correct that it is TSA not airline personnel in the U.S. doing whatever checks are taking place.
|
HEY, FODOR'S! WHY DON'T YOU FIX THE STUPID LONG URL PROBLEM?
IT WOULD TAKE TEN MINUTES. |
"I'd simply rinse it out in the sink or not use that item of clothing again on the trip" (Suze)...or simply wear it and pretend it's the latest fashion, smiling serenely at anybody who might find stracciatella gelato on white t-shirt unusual.

If you do find yourself need stain (tache) in France or Belgium, buy some Wipp's. Comes in a small red tube and is a gel/cream. We haven't had a stain yet that it didn't remove and it hasn't damaged any fabrics. It's pretty cheap.
If you do plan to hit a laundromat in Europe, bring along a few dryer sheets. The laundromat vending machines are usually stocked with detergents and fabric softeners, but almost never offer dryer sheets. |
