Ticketless Reservation on ICPlus Train Question
I just booked tickets on the trenitalia website, which by the way, went very smoothly. I rec'd my password back instantly and sailed through the whole booking process so based on some of the troubles I have read about on this board, it must be a good day at trenitalia. We are leaving from Santa Margherita Ligure which, apparently, does not have self-service ticketing machines. Should we get tickets printed out at the SML ticket counter or will the conductor on an ICPlus train print them out using the confirmation number? Posters have mentioned that they have just gotten on the train but I wasn't sure if that was only for ES trains. Thanks so much for your help.

I think I have answered my own question. I narrowed my search down to "ticketless train travel" and found all kinds of good info including a link to the slotrav site that had terrific info on trains. When booking I wasn't given the option for 'ticketless' only 'self-service' ( I wasn't totally clear on the difference until my further research). I am assuming, yet again, this is because we have a transfer to a Regional train in Pisa which will require a ticket. So, my plan is to just pick up all the tickets in SML. If those of you that have made the trip from SML to Florence can confirm, I sure would appreciate it.

I used the ticketless option on an IC train from La Spezia to Rome in May 2005. I just brought along a copy of my receipt with the PRN (confirmation number), the conductor checked it, and that was all that was required. Super easy :-)

I just re-read your second post. I believe that is correct that ticketless is not available on regional trains. Picking up all your tickets at the counter sounds like a good plan.
