Thumbs up/down for Scribe in Paris

Would you recommend the Hotel Scribe in Paris? Suggested by my travel agent, but cannot find its website to view rooms. Thanks for your comments.

Louise
Unless you know your agent to be well-traveled and/or knowledgeable
don't jump on the recommendation until you've located the hotel on the map and found some feedback on it somewhere.
Actually, I shouldn't single out travel agents, I wouldn't jump on any one person's recommendation unless I was absolutely sure that their preferences match my own.
If you don't get responses right here, look for information from past hotel guests of the hotel
at www.paris.org, or www.hotelboulevard.com
I checked the Fodor's guide to Paris and
my copy of "Cheap Sleeps in Paris" and the hotel isn't listed.
You can also do a search on it here to see if there were any postings in the past, and you can check
the hotel listings elsewhere on this Fodor's website under Destinations, and
Rants and Raves.

The only thing I know about the Hotel Scribe is that it's right across the street from where the International Herald Tribune offices used to be located, and used to be the home base for many American journalists. It's a famous hotel, but I don't know what condition it's in today.

Hi, Louise. If you're referring to the Hotel Scribe located in the 9th arrondissement close to the Opera, then I recommend that you stay there.

My family and I have been staying at Hotel Scribe for the past 3 years every time we are in Paris. It's a 5-star hotel and the rooms are nice. The location is ideal. It is right across another 5-star hotel; the Le Grand Hotel Inter-Continental. It is also walking distance from Galleries Lafayette and Printemps.

I find their rooms better than the ones at Le Grand. Probably because they are newly-renovated. However, the staff at Le Grand seem to be more friendly and accommodating. I guess it all depends on what is more important to you.

Why not check-out the Sofitel web-site? I think Hotel Scribe is part of this chain. And try to take a look at the Inter-Continental web-site, too.

I was trying to reserve a room at Hotel Scribe for the first week of September but they are fully-booked already!

I was in Paris last November doing site inspections of hotels (I'm a travel agent). The Scribe was wonderful. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there.

Dan & Franny,

I am going to Paris the first week in Sept and staying at the Scribe. I was so happy to read your positive posts about the Scribe. The only thing that I am disappointed about the Scribe is that they don't have a gym. BTW, is there one near by? I'm really looking foward to my stay there.

Our family spent a few days at Hotel Scribe (pronouncd with a short "i", per our cab driver) two years ago. It's a beautiful hotel with large rooms, clean and nicely decorated. The most delicious food we had in Paris was ordered through room service. We enjoyed the daily continental breakfast buffet, wonderful bread, cheeses, yogurt, fruit and cafe. My only complaint is the location, not much within walking distance, but is easy to catch a cab or take the metro. Have a great trip!
