Three nights outside of paris?
Hello there. We are heading to Paris and will be there from May 22-28. We have already made reservations at Hotel Britannique for the first three nights, but think that we would like to spend three nights outside the city somewhere. We are not sure where to go or what to see. Any ideas would be most welcome. We are up for anyhing. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers! |
You could Stay in Giverny and visit the Monet gardens and house.
I recomment Le Jarden of Giverny Hotel. Have heard great things about the Reserve. Another place that's charming is Les Andelys. How far out do you want to be? We like Leslie Caron's Hotel in Villeneauve-sur-yonne. |
If this is your first trip to Paris, I'd recommend you stay in Paris the entire time, as there is more than enough to occupy you there. You could make a day trip to Chantilly or Senlis or Fontainebleau or Auvers-sur-Oise or Vaux-le-Vicomte or Giiverny or Chartres.
If you've already absorbed Paris and want to get farther afield, there are innumerable choices for a three-day trip. You can be in Provence in under 3 hours on the TGV. You could tour the Normandy beaches and other sites. You could visit the Champagne region, or Burgundy, or Bordeaux. What sort of three-day trip do you imagine? Countryside? Vineyards? Another city? Meandering around little villages? Great food experiences? It would help to know something about what you have in mind because the possibilities are practically endless. |
Hi Rim,
If this is your first visit, I also suggest that you stay in the city for the whole time. ((I)) |
HI--there is no doubt that there is plenty to do in Paris but I understand wanting to vary your travel experience. If you decide not to spend the whole time in Paris, I cannot imagine a better time of year to visit the Alsace. You could base yourself in Strasbourg and see some of the lovely local wine villages like Obernai and many others. Just do a Google search for Alsace and you will get *lots* of info. The flowers will be in full bloom everywhere and it will be lovely.

Strongly recommend the coast of Normandy, including a visit to Mt. St. Michel. Simply breathtaking that time of the year.

I took the train to Brussels, that's another option.

The Loire. three days is enough to get a real flavor of the area and see several chateaux - yet not too far from Paris. May will be beautiful - see the garden at Villandry - and you can even stay in one of the chateaux hotels if you want. (We stayed in a family run 15th century chateau nera Chinon that was fascinating - as was dinner with the family/other guests - other Americans, Canadians, British, Russians and Argentinians).
