Three Days in Toulouse
 

Hi Everyone,
My wife and I will be in Toulouse for three days in September. We enjoy experiencing the city architecture, parks, historic sights and prefer to get around on foot. Any recommendations are welcome.

I was just there. Unfortunately, I didn't know the center city would be torn up all over due to various street construction. Which affects some traffic patterns also but that probably won't affect you unless you plan to drive out of the city (or into it). Also, one metro line was closed down, line A, but that is supposed to be over by September, lucky you. Maybe all the street stuff will be also.

In any case, I'd just recommend the usual top attractions for someone who hasn 't been there before, like St Sernin basilica, maybe the Musee des Augustins and Fondation Bamberg. I thought the Musee de la Resistance was pretty well-done, actually, if you are interested in WWII (that's not right in the center but not that hard to get to by metro/bus. They have some nice gardens (Royal Gardens), and the center main square is something (Capitole). For 3 days, you might consider a day trip to say Albi by train, that's easy, rather than 3 days just in Toulouse center, that's what I'd recommend. Albi or Carcassonne can be easily reached by train for a day trip.

It's one of our favorite cities in France. Christina has pretty much covered the basics. Familiarize yourself with the official website for the city. Get a map from the Tourist Office and set off. There is much to be discovered. One of my favorite places is Les Trésors des Violettes.

After spending a couple afternoons now & then in Toulouse, we finally decided to stay for a few days. Last September we did just that by spending 4 nights there. Loved it! Christina's post hits the popular highlights. We enjoyed wandering and did a free bus tour around the city which was a great intro to it. Wonderful food too! Have fun.

I loved Toulouse too and spent a couple of nice days there long ago but I would also suggest some easy day trip like to Carcassonne a short train ride away or Albi as mentioned above. Or rent bikes and putz along the Canal du Midi which skirts the town center.

I would pop down to the river and visit the weir turbine halls, no longer in use (France is removing river based energy generation as being anti-wildlife) it operates as a sort of kid's energy education centre with some good exhibits and nice views, Toulouse also has a live bike hire system like the Boris bikes if you don't want to fight on board the trams.

I was there in 2015. Loved Toulouse. Did a very enjoyable day trip to Albi and spent 2 wonderful nights in Carcassonne.
