Thnigs to do and see in Split, Croatia

We'll have one day in Split in October.

I've done some research, and it seems like the Diocletian Palace, Cathedral of St. Duje, and Museums of Archeology and Ethnography are worth a look.

Could anyone who has been there share an opinion on what to see and do? Thanks!

Hasn't anyone been to Split?

Sorry Abram, I've been a little out of touch lately. I have been to Split and some of my recommendations are the palace of course, wander around the market, hike up in the hills to see the view of the harbor and city, Bacvice Beach is fun if you are there on a Sunday and the weather is good. I would also say, if you have time, take the bus to Trogir. It's about 30 minutes away and a lovely town. I really enjoyed it. There are some good shops under the palace and of course, be sure to have ice cream while you are in Split. Enjoy Croatia, it's wonderful.

I flew into Split on my way to Hvar - I only had a few hours there. I found Split to be somewhat dusty and graffittied, lots of shops selling tourist junk. On the postive side - being a major transportation hub there was a lot of activity - not sure how it wil be in October. Diocletian's palace was interesting - and I wished I had had a few more hours so as to sit on the waterfront and have a meal, explore a bit more but a day should be more than enough, IMHO.

We spent a night in Split last November. We arrived in the evening and after settling in our hotel we had a nice dinner at Varos. Then we spent some time at a sidewalk cafe by the waterfront people watching.

The following day we did the Diocletian Palace and walked around the old town. We took a bus to Dubrovnik in the early afternoon.

We enjoyed our short stay there but don't feel the need to return.

Been many years since I've been to Split, but one of the "off the beaten path" ideas would be to check out the Mestrovic museum.....

He was a sculptor who really did some amazing work....interesting visit and wouldn't take very long either.
Best wishes for a great trip!! Dave
