We stayed at the Thistle Royal Horseguards in the Spring of 2000. The hotel was fabulous and service was outstanding. If Kensington is anything like it, I don't think you can go wrong. e-mail if you have any specific questions.

I stayed at the Thistle Marble Arch in January and highly recommend it. Very nice hotel, good service, good breakfast and I think an excellent value.

Hello,

I stayed at the Kensington Thistle in July 2001. Despite the hotel's questionable appearance (it is located directly over a gas station), I was very happy with it.

The rooms were well maintained and clean. The bathroom was the nicest I've had in a London Hotel -- it had a full tub & shower with (most important) great water pressure. The room itself was a bit small, but fine if you won't be conducting business or anything in your room. Also had cable TV (with CNN, I think).

The hotel is close to the tube and buses, as well as right across the street from Kensington Gardens. As far as restaurants & shops, the hotel is near the Bayswater area, which has lots of shops, restaurants, etc.

If you have time, I recommend walking to the Orangery (in the Gardens) for tea. It was wonderful to have tea in a beautiful historic building overlooking the gardens (the Orangery was built for Kensington Palace).

Hope this helps. Have a wonderful time in London!

--PW--

p.s. The gas station ended up being not too bad -- we used the mini-mart several times for snacks!

Maureen and others: Are you referring to the Thistle Kensington Park, Kensington Palace, or Kensington Gardens? I've booked the Kensington Park (one of the choices for American Airlines' Britain Get Up and Go deal) and was curious if this is the one you speak of.

thanks
Jeff

Thistle Hotels are a high quality chain of Hotels. Cant go wrong there. Bitty expensive though maybe

It's definitely worth checking for a deal, though, particularly on weekends. (They must cater a lot to business travelers, and are probably losing some business right now).

I got a weekend rate at the Thistle Bloomsbury, which looks very elegant and is in a super location, for 75 pounds.

Hi,

I have stayed at the Tower Thistle ( by Tower bridge and the Tower of London) for two weeks and was very good ( had views overlooking Tower bridge)
