Thistle Euston Hotel
Hi..
My husband and I recently booked a great deal on American Airlines for a long weekend in London in January (we're coming from Chicago).
We went with the basic hotel in the package, the Thistle Euston, but after seeing a few other posts, I am a little concerned about the location. It's close to the train station, and we are used to taking public transportation, but is it a safe neighborhood?
Thanks for your help!

Thanks PJ---have a great trip!!

Do a "Thistle Euston" search on this site and a few reviews will pop up. Summary; Okay hotel close to subway and a bit out of the way.

The tourist areas of London, and Euston, have no unsafe areas. But Euston is indeed a bit remote: Thistle Victoria and Thistle Charing Cross are at the heart of things, especially the latter.

Please write if I can help further. Welcome to London

Ben Haines
Thanks for the replies...
Ben, to upgrade to the Thistle Victoria it's about $150 USD more than the Euston. I'm inclined to stick with the Euston hotel unless you think we'll end up spending just as much on taxis.
The Thistle Charing Cross is not an option with the package, but perhaps I can call the hotel directly and see if they will change the reservations. Again, if it is much more $$, I don't think I'll change.
Again, thanks for your help!!
We're really looking forward to our trip!

Trish: I just got home last night from the AA vacation that you are taking, and we stayed at the Thistle Euston. The area is very safe and the Euston station on the Northern line is across the street, and the Euston Square station on the Circle line is 3 blocks from the hotel. We enjoyed our stay there very much. I have stayed in other areas of London and in smaller hotels, but this was fine. The rooms were nicely done and roomy for London. The continental breakfast was brought to our rooms each morning at the time we requested. There is a bar downstairs where we had a very good steak sandwich late at night and a restaurant in the basement. Use the public transportation; it is very convenient from the hotel and makes everything in London fairly close.

Looks good....I did a search on Thistle Euston....I usually stay at Russell Square and walk to Euston Sta. to catch "tube" and train. Ben and Marty got it right....have fun....ENJOY...
|
Thanks everyone for your responses!
Marty, I'm glad you enjoyed your recent stay.
We live in the city, so we are definitely inclined to use as much public transportation as possible.
Now I only wish we didn't have to wait until January to go!!
Thanks again!

Please do not upgrade at 150 dollars. You will be using busses or tube, not taxis, and the extra mileage will make no difference to fares, though it will add 15 minutes to various trips.

Ben Haines

trish

I like the hotel and have stayed there a few times when in London on business.

One thing that you should be aware of though is that a number of rooms at the Thistle Euston look into a very dark central courtyard. If you can, request a room that overlooks the small park to the right of the hotel.

Ron

Trish: One more thought: be sure to cross the street from the station up a ways from the entrance to the hotel. It sits on a blind curve! You will like the hotel and the various people who run it.
