Thistle Euston hotel?
 

American Airlines is offering a fabulous package trip to London with 3 nights at the Thistle Euston. Can anyone tell me what this hotel is like, especially whether it's clean, quiet, pleasant and convenient to the tube (e.g., Euston station itself)? We don't need luxury, just a comfortable place to sleep! Also, what's the "continental breakfast" like? Thanks.

I've stayed there four and a half years ago. My recollection is that the room was quite ample, nicely decorated, and the bathroom was large, too. The public lounges were lovely, and the staff, pleasant and helpful. I think the hotel wasn't a Thistle then. <BR><BR>I stayed there two nights only, and had breakfast twice, which I ordered from room service. It was tasteful and plenty, though. I didn't use the tube, went walking to Covent Garden, since it was Summer and the weather was warm. Otherwise, I used only taxies. The area isn't really nice, it's a little deserted. However, Princess Diana's accident happened when on my second day. Since I had checked in the evening the day before, and woke up late, when I left the hotel I found mostly grief, wherever I went.<BR><BR>Regards,<BR><BR>S<BR><BR>

Thistle Euston (formerly Kennedy Hotel) is OK. It's situated just round the corner from Euston Station, handy if catching an early train to Edinburgh. The area is quiet at night and hasn't much to do, except for some excellent Indian restaurants in Drummond St a block away. You can take the tube from Euston for the West End. They have standard rooms which are OK and better executive rooms on certain floors, recently refurbished. Rooms are fair size for London, have AC and well equipped. Noise shouldn't be a problem. Ice machine on every floor! Breakfast is buffet-style, with an option of Japanese food (lots of tour groups). All in all a fair choice if you are paying around 50 pounds a room. I'd stay somewhere bit more lively, like Knightsbridge, South Kensington, Chelsea, or in the West End itself though you'll pay a bit more (maybe 80-100 pounds after discount).

Thistle Euston is the basic offering (i.e., other hotels are available for a higher rate) so I thought I'd go with this unless there were major reservations about it.

Joanne - I did a search for info on this hotel and found your post. Did you book this hotel and if so, how did you like it? <BR><BR>If anyone else has any additional info, I would appreciate that also.<BR><BR>Between the Thistle Euston and the Thistle Tower, which would you choose?

Jane,<BR>We stayed at the Tower Thistle for the third time last year - we enjoy it tremendously - especially as it is located on the river. However, if you are in London primarily to sightsee it is about a 15 minute walk to the tube.<BR>Although the Tower is adjacent, and it is a very pleasant but quite long walk over the bridge to the Globe Theatre, Tate Modern. London Eye etc.<BR>The Hotel is beside St. Katherines Dock which is a most attractive area, with shops, restaurants etc.<BR>We recommend the hotel highly.
