This time last year I was getting ready to go to Paris.
 

Just missing Paris and wishing I was returning again this year. But thank you to all who put into such wonderful descriptive words your individual experiences with the city of lights we call Paris.

So was I, scheduled to fly out of Newark on the evening of September 13th. Needless to say I never made that trip. I won't make it back this year either, but there's always next year...

I just returned from Paris a few weeks ago and I'm already missing it. I'll be working on paying off my credit card balances in hopes that I can return next March or April.<BR><BR>I just can't figure out how I'll manage to see all the other places around the world if I keep going back to Paris.

My husband and I are going for the first time on Oct. 17th. We are very excited. We've been studying maps, guide books and of course this forum. We've been to Italy twice so it'll be interesting contrasting the two. Can't wait to start taking notes for my trip report.

We were in Paris in May for our third visit to that wonderful city. I think of Paris every day and wish that I were there! I guess I can never get enough of Paris. I am planning a trip to Spain and Portugal for this May but part of my heart says Paris! Just can't get it out of my mind!

My son and I leave for Paris on October 10th. Need I say more. Rita<BR>

Last year I was in Paris for my birthday on September 13. My husband took me to Georges in the Center Pompidou. The view of the Eiffel Tower and the City was georgous. The food was wonderful. Our server was very helpful with the menu. We had the most delicious chocolate desert I have ever eaten. It was warm, cake like on the outside, and melted chocolate on the inside with raspberries and I think strawberries. Yummmmm.

Jayelle, why didn't you go on your trip? Yes, I realize 9/11 happened, but I also was scheduled to fly out to Europe on 9/13, and didn't make it out until 9/16, but I still went.

Last year on the 13th I was supposed to go to Italy. Hopefully next year.

My three trips to Paris began 40 years ago, with two recent ones within 6 months of each other. I am planning to return next August with my 11 year old granddaughter (she's a front; I just want to go again). People ask me why I am returning and not seeing "something else." But you folks seem to understand the pull of that city. I have been reading everything from Hemingway, to Gertrude Stein and Erich Maria Remarque to the latest mysteries set in Paris. I just feel a need to soak up information and atmosphere and to get back as soon as I can justify it!

Jane not saying you had to cancel the trip but a good many of us found it too difficult to celebrate last you. That is how this NY felt anyway. I did not loose anyone close but I just felt like I did not want to leave the U.S.<BR><BR>I also missed great ski sales at home. I could not bring myself to think about shopping until about Dec or Jan. When I found out the sales came and went successfully I could not believe other New Yorkers actually went shopping. I could not do it.

again that was just how I felt did not mean to judge. <BR><BR>I was never afraid to go away I just wanted to be around other Americans. Not a partriotic thing just the weird way I was feeling.

Jane,<BR> I live just across the river from Manhattan and knew people who died at the WTC. I wasn't in any mood for a vacation after that. Even if I had been, my work schedule wasn't flexible enough for me to postpone at that time.

In a few weeks I'll be marking my 50th (!) trip to Paris. Talk about getting hooked on a city/country. <BR><BR>There is simply no place like Paris. It grips you, enfolds you, brings you into its heart. There is no end to its pleasures and mysteries.

I was scheduled to fly to Paris for a two week vacation last September 13th, too. My husband and I decided to postpone our trip after 9/11 (the flight was cancelled anyway) and we rescheduled for this past May. We had a glorious time in Paris (I've been there about a dozen times but never tire of it) and then traveled on to Normandy (where I spent a year while studying at the University of Caen), then Brittany and finally, the Loire Valley. We're planning another trip to to Paris for next year with a visit to the southwest of France as well. We're thinking of spending a few days in Barcelona, but France will always be my favorite European country! I miss it continually!
