If she does have 2 million lifetime miles then she's AA Platinum/OW Sapphire for the life of the AAdvantage program.

but, unfortunately I was wrong in the earlier post. Regardless of the status, you still can't use the DFW lounges during the outbound. You are connecting to a non-OneWorld (Swiss) partner for the international segment, so no go. I would still try, but don't expect it. If it works, be thankful.

During the return, you will be able to use the JFK lounges, since you are coming off a OW(Iberia is a oneworld partner) international flight connecting to AA. So at least your mom's status gets you access in New York.

Neopolitan May 2nd, 2006 02:37 PM

OK, guess I didn't realize that Swiss is no longer One World. I was actually thinking this whole thing might be a code share as it used to be from Miami.

AAFrequentFlyer May 2nd, 2006 02:46 PM

Swiss was never OneWorld. It was and still is an AAdvantage partner but codeshares have ended and so will the AAdvantage partnership soon. Swiss was bought by Lufthansa and they officially became a StarAlliance partner just recently.

Neopolitan May 2nd, 2006 02:52 PM

hmm. That's interesting, I just brought up some SWISS and AA codeshare flights for June, including one from ORD to ZRH. But guess this particular flight is not one of them.

TXgalinGA May 2nd, 2006 02:57 PM

Okay, I just logged back on AA.com and looked again. It says "Status: Platinum"- so I'm guessing that means she's platinum status, huh ? ? :D
Bummer about the AC in DFW- I'll be very sweet and look nice... can't hurt.
I wonder if she's lifetime... that would be great for them! I know she's had over 1 million miles before, and I wouldn't be surprised if she's had a grand total of 2 milion...

Neapolitan

There may be couple of months left on codeshares out of ORD and JFK, but trust me, it's all coming to an end. I can't keep up with all the small changes, but the total picture is true. :-)

Neapolitan

BTW, if the Swiss flight was AA coded, then the OP would have access to the AC in DFW. The important factor is that the ticket/boarding pass has to have AA flight number, NOT Swiss flight number.

AAFrequentFlyer May 2nd, 2006 03:10 PM

and it does not seem to be the case here.....:-(

TXgalinGA May 2nd, 2006 03:23 PM

Just talked to my mom- she has reached 2 million miles- got her letter in the mail awhile back- but still no AC membership... so what does 2 million mile status get you?

AAFrequentFlyer May 2nd, 2006 03:26 PM

She's is good for as long as AAdvantage program is around. The perks are listed here:

http://www.aa.com/content/AAdvantage...platinum.jhtml

AAFrequentFlyer May 2nd, 2006 03:35 PM

AC membership is not part of it.

AC and OW business lounge access only is, but only during deep international travels and when flying or connecting with OW partners.

OW partners:

AA, British Airways, Iberia, FinnAir, AerLingus, Cathay Pacific, Qantas and LanChile.

Soon to join: Japan Airlines, Malev Airlines (Hungarian) and Royal Jordanian Airlines. These were "officially" announced, but could still be derailed, as BA did to Swiss.

Rumors, but only rumors: Ethiopian and WestJet(Canadian LCC, somewhat doubtful, but one never knows).

AAFrequentFlyer--how many cr card AA miles needed to fly business class to Europe? Thanks!

AAFrequentFlyer May 2nd, 2006 05:02 PM

All miles are spendable, it's just that only the actual flown miles are counted towards status.

When it comes to spending the miles it does not make a difference how you earned the miles. They are all the same when you want to get a ticket.

That said, here is the chart:

AAFrequentFlyer May 2nd, 2006 05:04 PM

for some reason the link does not work with a click because of the identifier not being part of the link. You need to copy and paste the whole thing....:-)

travlintoes May 2nd, 2006 05:13 PM

AAFreq--thanks for the info. Haven't figured out yet how to do as you said, but will keep working on it.

AAFrequentFlyer May 2nd, 2006 05:21 PM

AAFreqFlyer: Aah Ha!! The ABC's of AA.com!! Thanks for putting it in simple language for me. You're a doll!

travlintoes May 2nd, 2006 05:54 PM

Looks like 80K aa miles for biz to Europe. Or, use only for 1 way (say, night flight over the pond) biz class would be 25K + $250. Guess that is not so bad.

AAFrequentFlyer May 2nd, 2006 06:00 PM

NO! where did you get that idea?

North America-Europe is 90K miles

There are no one way awards. The 25K miles + $250 is a one way upgrade to business from most economy tickets.

nho9504 May 2nd, 2006 06:22 PM

How did you manage to read the chart ?

1) there is no one-way award - ok, they charge you the same miles whether r/t or one-way.

2) there is no distinction about day flight or night flight - where did you get that idea ?!

3) the 25K miles plus $250 is for purchase upgrade from Y to Biz, and it is a raw deal now it requires $250 co-payment. (unless you are exp). It used to be only 25K miles one-way. Meaning if you want to upgrade both ways you need 2 x 25K and 2 x $250.

4) AA biz class is not flatbed - it is not like you can lie down flat - it is probably a 140 degree recline and many times the foot rest does not work.

AAFrequentFlyer May 2nd, 2006 06:53 PM

EXPs have to pay $250 as well when using miles to upgrade. It's only when we use our e-vips, there is no charge.

travlintoes May 3rd, 2006 05:24 AM

I stand corrected--it is 90K for biz--slip of the digit, I guess. As far as the 25K + $250, I was reading it to mean if you fly coach but want to upgrade to biz for 1 leg of your trip, that would be possible. So, guess I am reading too much into this? Obviously, I'm trying to figure the least aa miles needed for Europe--if only just for the flight over. (I do realize there is no difference in cost of miles used for day or night!) Please straighten me out so I can fly right. Thanks.
