THIS FORUM IS A MESS

I AM SHOCKED AT HOW DIFFICULT THIS FORUM IS IS TO USE

cigalechanta Feb 20th, 2009 03:44 PM

so are some of us!

StCirq Feb 20th, 2009 03:47 PM

Are you new to Fodors, taniaroth? If so, I hope the editors are "listening" to you. Most of us "regulars" here are having problems with it as well. If newcomers are finding it as bad as we are, maybe the editors will be convinced we're not just griping because it's changed.

Melnq8 Feb 20th, 2009 03:51 PM

Other than it taking forever to load, I think the new format is a major improvement. Not sure why everyone is whinging. Change is good.

1) Please do not use all caps

2) How many new rant threads do we need to start here <u>each day</u>?

Feel free to continue to rant here:

and here:

3) No, OP has been around for 3 years:

And
4) Your post is not a trip report. Please do not tag non-trip reports with the trip report tag.

The irony is that I bet 90% of you complainers voted for "Change" while a died-in-the-wool redneck Republican like myself embrace this change at Fodors. I see absolutely NO CHANGE in the time the page loads. I also find things to be more orderly, more interesting and far easier to read. The pink background is less taxing on my eyes than the bright, bright white background. The ability to sort the topics by date is awesome. I think it's great that the trip reports are listed separately as are recent posts. I don't have to wade through the same tired topics like "Where are you now", "How Much do I tip the Pilot", etc. Semi-funny 5 years ago but enough is enough. And I'm digging this new format more and more every day. The only improvement for me would be the ability to ignore specific posters. After this post, I might be the number one choice.

sshephard Feb 20th, 2009 06:12 PM

I'm a died-in-the-wool Democrat and yes we can! Adjust to the new Fodors format, that is.

I agree with Otzi. The Fodors changes represent a tremendous improvement. As I have said, the ever-changing list of new posts along the left hand side was not at all user friendly. There are so many features now that represent progress.

I also agree with yk: how many rant threads do we need? Maybe we should get back to travel talk?

I am a serious traveller and have used this site planning all my trips. At least once a day, when I have time, I make some coffee and read through the post to get ideas for my next trip. I feel as If I have lost something!!!! I am very disappointed with this new change.

janisj Feb 20th, 2009 08:24 PM

OK - now we need to find out if the editors can remove an incorrect "Trip Report" flag???

KATIE! we need you . .. :)

rex Feb 21st, 2009 04:12 AM

I can't see that this thread IS tagged as a trip report - - how do you get that?

Curious minds want to know...

Best wishes,

Rex

BozoTheClown Feb 21st, 2009 04:18 AM

It <i>was</i> tagged as a trip report... Katie must have changed it back.

rex Feb 21st, 2009 04:26 AM

Even if it had not been changed back - - wasn't it reasonably self-evident that it was a mistake?

Would anyone have clicked on <I>this</I> title, thinking that it actually was a trip report?

Travelnut Feb 21st, 2009 05:36 AM

I'm liking it fine now. If you go straight into Archives, it's almost like the old "per 50" only better b/c the reading column is wider. And fewer clicks to go back, back b/c a page will show ALL posts for a day, not just 50.

yk Feb 21st, 2009 05:42 AM

It was me who emailed the editors to ask them to remove the trip report tag. Otherwise, this post will continue to stay in the <b>Trip Report</b> section on the main Europe page (?for days), taking up precious real estate and kicking someone else's trip report off the main page.

Hi; This is interesting posted by 'atoosahermosa'. <I am a serious traveler and have used this site planning ALL MY TRIPS.> She could not have asked many questions, as she/he is listed as a new member as of February 2009. ENJOY Iris

I just got back on the forum after having been away from it for a couple of months. Kind of bummed out that I'm not able to plan a trip with the economy having affected our financial status. But I couldn't stay away. Much to my surprise it's very different! Not sure how I feel about it - it's a bit confusing and took awhile to find the the column on the left that I found so useful before. Maybe it's just going to take some exploration...new things take time to learn.

aeiger Feb 22nd, 2009 08:13 PM

Hi
This is the first time I've signed in in several months and it certainly looks difficult. I don't like seeing the responses along side the questions, it's confusing. there seem to be less questions on each page now. Otherwise it appears to be the similiar. Wow, I really missed the whole change.

cruiseluv Feb 22nd, 2009 08:14 PM

Frankly, I like it now.
