I travel on a budget and I cobble public transport together in Norway when I travel there. Also Hurtigruten if it's an under 24 hour stretch and I can sleep in the lounge. But also express busses, trains, the ordinary inter-island ferries. You can get almost everywhere by bus, also to quite remote places.

We have been traveling, so a late thank you for the suggestions.

How was it?
|
Just went upstate NY to visit relatives. For those who are interested in such things, it looks the autumn foliage will peak in a little less than three weeks in the area from Syracuse to about one hour north of NYC.

One of the benefits of sailing with Hurtigruten is that you can get off and then get on another one of the ships a few days or weeks later. The locals use it for transportation from one coastal town to others.

friends have done the hurti cruise and liked it
bad weather can make it hard to see things though my husband and I drove from oslo to Lillehammer and then up to geiranger where we stayed in a gorgeous cabin right on the fjord did some daytrips from there when it mists over some roads close so we did miss out once also stayed in balestrund...beautiful beautiful oslo is a very cool city...the war museum is fantastic and we loved the sculpture park vigeland we stayed in flam for three days and used that as base another very cool after hours town when tourists go home stayed right on the fjord didn't do the nutshell..but have heard good things if your wife paints..she will be in heaven the light around 10 to midnight makes it all look ethereal I actually use my memories of ballustrand to get to sleep sometimes that light...that scenery...just makes you weep with awe |
the narrowfjord is gorgeous
I reckon the narrower they are the more twisty and spectacular the scenery becomes alesund is nice didn't make it to Bergen and I'm disappointed that lofoten islands couldn't be added either...cos they look fantastic |
