thinking about future trip: driving from greece to lithuania
my wife and i are getting ready to a month wandering southern italy and sicily next week and already thinking about next spring. considering flying into greece, renting a car and then driving northward ending in lithuania where she has family - been there 3 times. doable by 70+ couple who have traveled independlently for the last 20 years.
thanks |
You almost certainly can't do a one way car rental from Greece to Lithuania. If you can expect to pay a hefty one way fee.
Assuming you can rent a car how long are you planning on for the trip? |
Autoeurope will rent you a car to do it but it's going to be expensive. On the other hand, it will be cheaper and more reliable (and less hassle/headache) than buying a car in Greece to sell in Lithuania.
Autoeurope shows me $1989 for a 25 day rental in August (pick up Athens airport, drop off Vilnius airport) with collision and theft insurance. I say go for it. Buy a TomTom and update the maps before you leave. If you do it, please come back and tell us all about it. |
THANKS FOR RESPONSES. PLANNING ON 5 WEEKS. WHAT ABOUT TRAIN AND BUS PART OF THE WAY AND THEN FINISH WITH RENTED AUTO.
|
If you pick up the rental car in one country and drop off in another, you will still have to deal with the international drop-off fee.
I can't tell you if it will be cheaper to train/bus part of the way then rent a car or just rent a car for the whole time. You are going to have to play around with travel dates and bus and train timetables to see what the numbers come out to be. |
You will also have to find out what the one-way fee is, because it is not normally included in the price quoted for the rental, and often has to be paid at the office you collect the car from.
