I thought I lost a special necklace in Paris and found it two years later in the pocket of a jacket I wore on the trip and had not worn since!

Lost my favorite pair of riding breeches in Provence....long story and a bit too juicy for this website!

Bill, your syllogism reference might be appropriate (if not outright snotty) if Maxine had asked about things lost on trips WHILE NOT IN EUROPE. Absent that, your comment is only snotty.

I lost a $2 bill at a bar in Heidelberg that had Chesty Morgans' autograph on it. Two nights later at another bar in Heidelberg I found the $2 bill tacked on the wall with lots of other famous signatures and memorabilia . . . so I left it there without making a fuss.

I lost a cheap rain hat that I really loved in the Cotswolds. Think it fell out of my pocket. I really loved the way it fit and we looked for it on several roads. I kept saying it was not expensive ($5) but I liked it so much.
When I arrived home I went back to the store I had purchased it from to see if by chance they had another. I was there in the morning a few minutes before the store opened so I was was sitting in my car waiting. I glanced over in the parking lot and there was a $5 bill with no one around anywhere. I got out and picked up the $5 bill, went inside and there was an identical hat.
Of course I used the found $5 to pay for the lost $5 hat. Strange.....
How about things that were ripped off? That list is too long for here. Every trip I have ever taken to Europe, I have had other sticky fingers going after my things. Useful to me, useless to them.

Had an early flight out of Paris a number of years ago, so we decided to spend our final night at a hotel near CDG. Couldn't find my airplane ticket the next morning and was certain I had either lost it, or left it at our hotel in Paris (with no time to run in an retrieve it if I had.)

Fortunately, after tearing through everything, I found it tucked in a tiny little compartment (did I really put it there?)

On the plus side, I think I lost three pounds from sweating.

I lost 5 bras at the L'Angleterre Hotel in Paris. I think the maid snagged them.

Simone, aren't you the person who's looking for clothing optional places in Spain? You lost 5 bras? Are you sure you didn't discard them unconsciously?

This is a cool story. A few years ago, we took a trip to Europe. On that trip, my 12 year daughter bought a "bucket" type hat in Venice. A goofy looking thing, but she liked it. She wore it the whole trip and had become attached to it. When we were in Disneyland Paris, she left it on the last ride of the day. The park closed behind us as she realized she left it. We tried to get back in, but were just sent to lost and found to leave a description of the hat. She was convinced that the park would find her hat and mail it. We didn't want to burst her bubble after after all she left it in Fantasyland. Well, know what- the park did send the hat back to us and it arrived at our home even before we arrived home from our trip!

On a 6 week tour of Europe (years ago), the airlines lost my father's luggage-for the duration of the trip! Having received the max. payment - $100.00 I think- by the airlines, my father invested in a sweater only...too Scotch to spend his vacation money on clothes. The standing joke was : he'd button the top botton for "formal" evening dinners and unbotton it for "daytime" activities. The luggage showed up 8 weeks later having traveled to Australia and back!
