Things to do on Capri

Not sure if I will spend a night on Capri or just day trip.
Could you tell me of the activities you recommend for a daytrip to Capri?

Go up the tram to the main square and the little tourist info booth, hopefully it will be open and you can get a nice walking map of the island. Sit and have a cafe and decide which trail to walk and then set off on a beautiful day of meandering. I think there is also a tourist booth down by the marina where the boats from the mainland dock.

Take the chairlift. Then go to the blue grotto and go inside, jump out of your boat and swim a bit while the boat man sings. Yes it's a tourist trap but when you get home you will forget that it was a tourist trap but not that you saw it and swam in the grotto.

Where is the chairlift? I heard you can take a bus to the Grotto, is this true and would that be better than taking a boat? I heard you can get sick on the boat waiting for the transfer to a smaller boat.

Is the Blue Grotto even open this time of year?

The boast stop returning from Capri to Sorrento rather early so don't waste your time.

We were there a few years ago and will return again this year.

Biggest mistake was wasting 2 hours on the Blue Grotto just to see some blue light and have someone sing Volare.

Capri is beautiful. Take the funicular up to the town and spend a few hours walking the paths and over to the other side of the island. You'll see the most photographed (Fragliani (sp?)) part. Beautiful scenery.

Because of the Blue Grotto we never made it to Anacapri. Will know better this time.
I don't know about you but the bus ride to the Blue Grotto from Anacapri was a fun part of the visit. And we didn't wait at all to go into the grotto. I didn't consider it a waste at all but that's one person's opinion.

Visit www.capri.net and determine for yourself what you think is worthwhile.

Walk up to Tiberias' Villa. It's a great walk with many fantastic views. It seems to me it takes something like 1-1/2 hours each way. Wear comfortable shoes. All uphill going to the Villa.

What about Villa San Michele in Anacapri? Is it as interesting as it appears?

The chairlift is at Anacapri. Not to be missed!! A peaceful, lovely 10-15 min. ride up to the summit of Monte Solaro, with the best views in Capri from the top!

Probably best in the morning before the crowds.

Don't bother, though, if the summit is cloud-covered.

Steve

I must be in the minority but I really did not enjoy my day trip to Capri. The main square was just so twee- I half expected Ruritanian soldiers to appear on the balconies and sing operatic airs. The shops catered for those with more money that taste and the restaurants were over priced. In fact we had a really awful meal there -the only bad meal we've ever had in all my years of travelling round Italy.

Please do the chairlift. I went about 3 years ago with my husband. We went to the top and for some reason it was extremely quiet, with very few people there. It was clear and sunny, really peaceful and you could see for miles. I had one of those moments, I can still vividly remember it today, where you are truly aware of just 'being'. I felt really alive. It lasted for only a minute, but I will never forget it.Maybe this won't happen to you, but go anyway.

You can take the chairlift up from Anacapri, then walk back down. The walk to Villa Jovis (Tiberius' villa) is nice.
