Things to do in Weggis, Switzerland

Dear all,

In my next trip to Europe (in late May) I will spend one day in Weggis, Switzerland (on the shores of Lake Luzern). for those of you who have been there already, what do you suggest as must-do/must-see activities on such a limited time budget? Will have a car, so any detour suggestions within reasonable distance (1 hour each way) will also be very welcome! Also, has anyone stayed at the Weggis Hotel Central am See? I hope to hear from someone! Many thanks in advance,

Sandra

The obvious answer is to ride up the gondola (cable car) on Rigi.

Excursions might be planned in copnjunction with where you are headed next. Altdorf is a pleasant enough mid-day stop, if you are headed towards Lugano.

Best wishes,

Rex
Thanks, Rex, i was hoping you'd reply to this post. I actually chose Weggis as a stop in my trip after you suggested it, answering a previous post (about 2 weeks ago). Again, thanks.

Sandra

Good evening, Sandra Try the Admiral Casino in the Post Hotel across from the city docks, just to pass the time away.
Riochard of LaGrange Park, Il..

You're welcome, Sandra - - and I'm glad to see some additional input from the esteemed Mr. Vicek.

I recommended Weggis chiefly for the hotel and the view you get waking up in your room with those big old windows in the Albana. I'd recommend it for dinner too if you have any dissatisfaction with your own hotel.
Sandra: You will find further suggestions for the Weggis area at:
http://www.weggis.ch/tourismus/e/excursions/index.html

I highly recommend the Swiss Museum of Transportation in Lucerne and the Glass Factory in Hergiswil.

Have fun!

Hi. Ursula's mention of the glass factory in Hergiswil caught my eye. Friends of mine stayed at the small Hotel Roggerli in Hergiswil when they were looking for a Lucerne alternative and really liked it. I don't think they knew about the glass place though. What about Gersau? I'm always looking for smaller places. Topping for Sandra. J.
