Things to do in Brussels
 

The Guardian has an article on things to do in Brussels, and no one f them is not get out of town asap.
I hope some of you planning on visitng Belgium will find it useful.

If it is great, if it isn't you wasted a couple of minutes.
People tend to get out of Brussels asap and head for Brugge instead - this article shows there is plenty of interest in Brussels.

I though it might be of interest to some, if it isn't it isn't. No skin off my nose.

I have always liked Brussels, a nice reminder of one of my favourite cities.

I am very fond of Brussels. Not sure why it gets such a bad rap, but I guess that means fewer crowds while everyone treks off to Brugge.

We spent a week in Brussels almost 15 years ago and had a great time. I know it gets dissed here, but we had a fine time. I find Bruges, the darling of the Rick Steves crowd to be terminally boring after half a day or so We are all different.

Of course I'm a fan of Bruxelles. Always nice to go there.

However
- new places to stay, restaurants, bars and nightlife,
I'm past this time... Except for restaurants (was at La truffe blanche recently- very good.
- train world : never been but will defintely, heard a lot of good things about it
- comic strip center : went there ! twice. Liked it.
- Bozar : never been, not much interested
- flea : never went, never will as I don't like flea market and live close a very big one.

Where to shop ?
- never been to any of the mentioned places

Where to eat ?
- of course all new trendy places. So never been.

Where to drink ?
- never been to the mentioned places. Why don't they say a word about La Becasses, l'Atelier etc ? Has been ?

Where to sleep ?
- of course I sleep at home.

So all in all I'm always glad when somebody says nice things about Bruxelles, but frankly I'm always skeptical about expats living in Paris and telling about Bruxelles.

Go to Bruxelles, there are a lot of nice reasons that the Guardian didn't bother to mention.

Of course there are lots more reasons to go to Brussels, but I thought it was interesting and gave a few new ideas.
I haven't been for years I admit.I enjoyed visiting though We used to go in August and take advantage of all those mpty hotel rooms with all the EU people being on their hols elsewhere.
We went to A La Mort Subite, but it was a very long time ago, maybe 20 years or so. DH also dragged me into the dark underbelly of Brussels to a restaurant he went to when attending meetings at Eurocontrol HQ. I can't remember the name but I was really scared going and more so leaving. It was not a good area to be at night. Food was great though!

We might have friends in common.

Just got back & go to Brussels every year or so for work - but this time took my SO and we had a wonderful time. La Mort Subite is worth a visit & there are still locals there. Can't miss the Grand Place of course, though my favourite part of town is around the Grand Sablon and Petit Sablon, with the museums and sweet little shops. Followed by shopping on Ave. Louise, if there is time! I consider it not a prime destination (Paris, London, Rome...) but a very nice example of a pleasant European city, well worth enjoying if you are in the vicinity....

Sorry Wo, I missed your Eurocontrol comment. It is years and years since DH worked for them - in Beek. He did their Quality Manual and got them through their ISO certification for the first time. We have a bound copy of the manual which they gave him when he left!

Brussels is a fascinating city -bi-lingual-and though not old-world dreamy like Bruges (which many Americans like much more because they only spend a day or so in each) its joys have to be ferreted out not just looked at.

Got a very good friend working there right now. But don't tell him, he is British. I cannot be known to like British people...
There are a lot of English people around Waterloo.
