I am in.
Carl Rogers is one of my husband's favorite people.

LVSue May 11th, 2008 07:22 PM

Gosh, I forgot I asked a question.

My SIL and I will be there on May 22-3. We leave on a cruise the 23rd. I figure we may try to do a hop-on/hop-off bus on the 22nd, but I would really like to see the monestary--it looks spectacular on the net. Possible in a morning?

When I booked this trip last August I spent hours reading the LDC threads, but with such a short time, I really didn't want to bother anyone. I'm glad you all are still meeting from time to time!

You know 1st June will mark 11 years that I have been in Portugal...

Also Lizzie's dad's birthday, might be difficult, 2 dinners in one night :-(

Sher did you ever get my email?

Sher May 19th, 2008 07:16 PM

Hi Matt

I did not get your email. I don't know why.

We are leaving this week, so try again.

[email protected]

lobo_mau May 20th, 2008 01:45 AM

Matt, the dates on the table were 6th and 7th June. My original proposal was 6th June, but I'll be busy that night, so the most favorable night for us is 7th June. We can do it private or public (Gravatas?). Loba will return to you by email.

lobo_mau May 28th, 2008 01:09 AM

Sher
Where are you?

beeze May 28th, 2008 07:45 PM

Hi, Lisbon posters, Just got back from 8 days in Portugal- first trip--and want to thank you for all the hours of reading you've provided, especially Lobo,Matt, Sherry, David--- we even got to try The Best Chocolate Cake in the World, mmmmm.(We were ready to get a whole one to devour last Thursday, but they were closed???due to Corpus Christi day???and we left Friday morning to return.)
Trip report, brief due to our fairly well-beaten path, to follow. We drove Lisbon airport-Coimbra-Guimaraes-Porto-(to Mealhada for lunch and then Obidos for quick walk around, then to) Lisbon the last three nights, all hotels except for apartment in Lisbon (no car there). Used a GPS (from US) which was uncannily precise and never raised its ladylike voice.
Thanks, thanks. (ps, had secrets AND feathers of the black pig...thank goodness for the hilly walks)
Penny

beeze. we are using our GPS also and it is amazing except when it wants to send us on the super highway and we want to go on a local road but it recalculates very nicely.

Hi Beeze, Where exactly is this chocolate cake obtained from? I recall seeing it mentioned, but cannot find a precise location after a quick look through the thread--(if a quick look is indeed possible!) Thanks! pp

lobo_mau Jun 3rd, 2008 03:42 PM

Chocolate cake - Campo de Ourique area, very close to the returning point of tram 28 and a half way to restaurant Stop do Bairro.

beeze Jun 3rd, 2008 10:04 PM

Hi--yes, that's it, Lobo. There's a website with the address,
http://www.cozinhomania.com/BoloChocolate/default.aspx
and a photo that shows it well: it's really several layers of chocolate meringue discs pasted together by layers of chocolate mousse, and slathered on top with ganache. Not American cake!! It comes in dark or milk varieties I think, and is served in several places off-site; they make astounding numbers of them per week.
The recipe is guarded in DaVinci-code style, but the chef amusingly has relenquished the recipe for the Second Best Chocolate Cake in the World.
I think Tasquinha d'Adelaide is in that same area.
I just ate a few squares of dark chocolate before I logged on. Then I saw that photo. Pah!!!! I might as well have had a brown crayon. Sigh.

(Sher, are you back in the Burgh yet? Hockey mania is stirring here.)

peppermintpatti Jun 4th, 2008 04:30 AM

Thank you both for the info. I'm writing down the address now!!

beeze Jun 4th, 2008 06:05 AM

By the way, it is from Lobo that I read about this cake in the first place, so thanks to him. Would a kind Lisboan please post the hours of operation? I'd like to add them to my notes.
I kept notes anytime Lobo or Matt were discussing food or music!!!

Sher Jun 7th, 2008 03:22 AM

namaka Jun 7th, 2008 07:55 AM

Hi Sher,
I haven't logged on in some time but do occasionally check to see what everyone's up to. I wish I were there with you right now.

Is dinner with Lobo and Matt on? If so, you'd better tell us all about it and give them our best!

lobo_mau Jun 7th, 2008 08:44 AM

We'll be in Adega das Gravatas within 2 hours from now :-)

namaka Jun 7th, 2008 08:59 AM

Hi lobo, will Matt and Lizzie be joining you also?

Have fun and eat lots and lots for the rest of us!
