A couple weeks ago you offered to take me up on my request to join the LDC for an evening when I'm in Lisbon next month.

I can't speak on Matt's behalf, but we have already a LDC on 2nd July and another for 18 or 19. I'd love to meet you but it's difficult to me to schedule a 3rd LDC on a time interval of 1 month.
This doesn't mean we can't meet. My availability for informal meets for a coffee or a drink between 9 and 11 pm or weekends is virtually unlimited. If you want to follow one of our suggestions for LDC and call me to join you by dessert and coffee time, it's ok with me.

I'm on vacation -- my schedule is wide-open, although 6 or 7 July are preferable to 8 or 9, as I would like to follow-up on some of the Lisbon advice you will no doubt impart, at my request...

I would sincerely enjoy joining you, friends, spouses, etc. at some hole-in-the-wall, non-touristy, Lisbonesque establishment for a cocktail.

I just read through all the comments here and must congratulate on the good work - I find some of the info really useful.

Wanted to contribute my experience with Economy Car Rentals.

Booked with them 3 times including once in Lisbon. This one was the least fortunate, as I had a small accident while driving the rented car.
Fortunately it came to a happy end, as I called them and was advised to get all the necessary documents. Apparently the deal is that you get charged for any damage by the local company that gives you a car. As it is not them, but Economy that grants the No Excess, it is Economy that refunds you the money after you send them the documents they need by post. (you need to have a police report, damage report from the local copmany, receipts of all payments you make). It takes a while, but works - I got my money back!

I have also used Economy to hire a car. In Portugal and Cyprus.
Everything went smoothly, which I was happy about, as the rates were the lowest I found on the net. It made me a little anxious and expected something bad to happen, but nothing did. There is an option of signing up to become a Club Member (free of charge) and get a discount this way (for future rentals) and I'm alrady using it.

Hi Matt i have read through your suggestions for things to do in Lisbon with great interest. I am looking for some advice. I am planning a trip to Lisbon in the next couple of weeks and will be a solo female traveller (with the possibility of friends joining me for part of the trip).
I am staying in the Bairro Alto hotel. Do you have any tips for me? I have travelled on my own around France and U.S. before but would love some tips on safety, things to do,unscruplous men to avoid (if any) etc ;-). Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Dee. I wanted to point out something in case you might have missed it.
Many restaurants in Portugal offer half portions. They are very generous and may meet your needs if you are dining alone.

Question is, its been a long time since i was in portugal, about 9 years, and at that time i went 7 times in one year, from the united states.. fell in love.. but now i am bringing my 75+ year old parents, and wondered, what some of the best not to miss restaurants are..

love the little places in cascais, bota alta was a good one way back, and some lovely restaurant in lisbon that was very elegant,certainly high end (not touristy as the director of ICEP took us there) was like a large living room upstairs, no signs on the door and a fado singer that was to die for... any idea what this was..?? would also love to hear your suggestions, love cascais/sintra, and other areas will be visiting amarante this time around.. as well as evora, ... know any good tips for there?
