are there special limits to the amount I can take out of an ATM while in Italy. My bank tells me I havea 1000 dollar daily limit. Will the atm in italy honor that limit ..or will they only allow a certain limit?
|
We have generally had a 400 USD per day equivalent limit even though our limit here at home is 800USD.
|
I am confused as to why the limits would be different. Shouldn't I be able to get the amount my bank here gives me as a limit? Why would it be less?
|
Because the ATMs are programmed to disperse a limited amount. IME, I had to choose from several options on screen, not specify the amount I actually would have preferred to withdraw.

There are two aspects of this ATM limit.
Your home bank is not the only one that imposes the restriction. Your cash withdrawal is limited by the smallest of the limit imposed by the system. The owners of the ATM machines place cash withdrawal limits. Another aspect is the concept of "daily" limit. The "day" as defined by your home bank does not necessarily match with your "day" in Europe. My banks defines the "day" in terms of PST, CST, or 24 hours. So if I use a Debit card of a bank that computes "day" using PST, the withdrawal I do at 6pm and the 7am the next day morning in Europe count against the same "daily" limit. |

My essential - a night light. Nothing worse (especially in many European rooms that have heavy shutters) than getting up in the middle of the night - and we only do it more as we get older - and not knowing where to go (pun intended)!

Febreeze and Downy Wrinkle Releaser, available in travel sizes, or pour into your smaller travel size spray bottles. I don't even go away for the weekend without these.
Oh, and Ziplock bags in all sizes. |
