They'll Never Do It In France!

Now that Italy has outlawed smoking in restaurants and bars what are the chances that France will do the same? If so, when?

I was heartily amused today to see an interview with Arnold Schwartzeneger in which we saw his smoking tent. California outlawed smoking in public places a decade ago and Arnold likes his cigars, as do I. He has constructed a tent at the statehouse which is outside the restrictions of the law. Way to go Arnold!!!

As for France, even if there is a law they will flaunt it. Way to go Frenchies!!!

I doubt they will flaunt it, though flaunting, i.e. self-advertising, seems very French.

Perhaps they will flout (i.e. contravene) it -- which I think is what you mean.

It's coming soon no doubt. If Italy can enforce it (yet to be seen) France, much more orderly and beaucratically efficent than Italy, certainly will. Brussels rules!

I really can't imagine a France with rstaurants and bars that bar smoking, but I suppose they will eventually cave to the inevitable. And I also suppose that the French patrons will feel very free to flout the law and that nobody will do anything about it

For what it is worth, the final days, weeks and months of smoking in public are drawing to the inevitable close.
It has destroyed its share of the human race and is now taking its final breath.

I find it very interesting that so many people are horrified by the idea of smoking tobacco, but will support the legalization of marijuana.

I do not mean to imply that anyone here is among that group.
