"<i>theres not only the TKTS booth for cheap day-of tickets, but about a dozen or more other discount-ticket booths. I found out that if one doesn't have your show or price range, check another.</i>"
Sorry, but I have to disagree w/ that advice. Yes, there are other 'discount' ticket sellers around Leicester Sq. But they are for-profit and the majority of their seats go for above face value. They will have some seats at discount - but you'd better know the specific theatre and its seating plan. Often their 'cheap' tickets are either obstructed view or in the upper reaches of the theatres. Just buyer beware is all - at TKTS they are very helpful and won't try to trick you into a bad seat. You can't say the same about many of the other store-front ticket sellers. |
Thank you all for all of your help. I've booked a ticket for Oliver on December 30. I'll be in the stalls, a bit further back than I wanted (row U) but not too bad. I'm on the aisle with the aisle on the side of me towards most of the stage, so I'll hopefully be able to see fairly well. Even if I'd save a bit, I don't want to wait until I get there and try to hit the TKTS booth as I have only one night that will work and I plan on running around during the days.
I had a random thought and went looking for The Sound of Music, but it's not in London while I am. Les Mis looked a bit much for a newbie (at least according to the reviews), Lion King looked good but I'm afraid it won't be as good as the movie and I'd be disappointed. Online clips of Oliver looked good and I have nothing to compare it to and then whine. :) I'll be sure to add a write up in my trip report of my thoughts on the show. Thanks for all of the suggestions and advice! |
Can't wait to hear what you think! Be careful though, it starts as just one musical, then another and then you're planning whole trips around shows and waiting at the stage door to get the actors to sign your playbill!
Have fun! |
BKP , I know whereof you speak, We aren't returning until March and I've already started my theatre list!
