Theatre for children
I am hoping to take my 8yr old neice to the theatre in London for her birthday in Feb. Can anyone recommend a good show? I was looking at The Snowman but it only had one star on the review so I wasn't sure. There aren't any pantos on in Feb are there? Any suggestions would be great - her birthday is right at the beginning of Feb so I need to find something quickly (if anything good is still available, of course).

Any 8 year old would love the Lion King.

We took our kids to London last year (then 10 and 13) and are visiting again this year. They both loved Lion King and also The King and I. This year I have already purchased tickets to My Fair Lady and Noises Off. I am sure that she would like any of these.

It depends on your child and how mature they are. This past summer we took our kids to see Mamma Mia and Les Mis (12 year old girl and 8 year old boy). They loved both plays. We had played the Les Mis music for years in our home so the 8 year old was very familiar with the music. He enjoyed the battle scenes (not so much the love scenes).

Two years before that we took the kids to see Starlight Express, Beauty and the Beast, and The Importance of Being Earnest. The kids were 10 and 6 and enjoyed these fine (the 6 year old even got most of The Importance of Being Earnest).

In other words, go see anything that is good just make sure the subject matter is not adult. Children just enjoy the magic of theater.

Hi Gytha,
To echo the other posters, it does depend on the maturity level. I would recommend the Lion King, Cats, and possibly My Fair Lady. Also, check out the Official London Theater Guide website. I am going to be in London the first week in Feb and got all my tickets through that sight. They were offering seats for shows for 10 or 15 GBP. Its worth a look see, though by this time many of the best shows may have limited availability.
Have a great time,
Cheers,
Pat

What a shame Starlight Express closed! My son (6 at the time) just loved the whole train thing. And the music was great for adults. Maybe they can retool it and reopen again one day.

Brilliant! Thank you all for your suggestions. I had totally forgotten about The Lion King, I'm sure she would love it and its something I would enjoy too - always helps when you've got to look at least mildly interested, doesn't it?!
Cheers everyone!
