Best Area to Stay in Galway - Walk to Pubs

Hello,
My husband and I will be staying in Galway for two nights from Sept 11-13. What are the best streets/areas/B&B/Hotel to stay in so we can easily walk to pubs and dinner spots. Maybe I'm overestimating the size of the town, but I don't want to be away from it all. Something clean and comfy, but doesn't need to be fancy. Around $100/night.
Thanks all!
Jen

The area given the name "Latin Quarter" is probably the liveliest area. to fit your budget maybe Jury's hotel https://www.jurysinns.com/hotels/galway , although I might avoid this at weekends, and the Herons Rest B&B http://www.theheronsrest.com/ is a good option.

Your weekend clashes with the Tattoo Show and there will be some extra events on around the City. You also coincide with the Oyster Festival in Clarenbridge so maybe a trip down to Paddy Burkes would be of interest. or if outdoors/walking types its the Burren Peaks Walking festival around Ballyvaughn/Fanore.

The Eyre Square Townhouse is in your price range, everything else is 150 and above. You might try a B&B. Paddy Burkes is great.

We stayed at Forster Court near Eyre Square. Easy walking distance to some good pubs. One I remember in particular was An Pucan. It had some Irish dancing each night along with some excellent musicians. The hotel was also near the bus stop going to the Aran Islands.

bean11, we have stayed there and love the location but they had a flood and closed. I tried their dates but comes up with nothing. Must have been a doozy.

Forster Court was subject to a receivership order earlier in the year and is now reputedly closed until further notice due to flood damage.

Thanks everyone! Good advice from all, but we eventually decided on the Huntsman Inn. My husband just liked the looks of it. Hopefully we didn't make a mistake! Anyone have experience there?

Good hotel but a cab ride away from the main nightlife unless you want a 20 minute walk. If you want to be on the eastern side of the city there are a good few B&B's the other (city) end of College Rd.

Thanks for the update on Forster Court. Sorry to hear they are closed. I would still look for a place to stay near Eyre square though.

I'm not sure I'd stay at the Huntsman - is your booking pre-paid? It is quite a ways from most places you will want to go. Maybe someplace the area between Eyre Sq and the City Museum.

But perhaps you did check that area and the Huntsman fits better in your budget?

We stayed on Eyre Square and found it convenient to everything; Galway is such a lovely, walkable city. The Quays were where a lot of the action was when we stayed there, though An Pucan was quite near Eyre Sq.

Thanks for the input on the Huntsman. Hmmm... a 20 minute walk from everything. Everything else in our price range near Eyre Square was pretty much either booked or got bad reviews on TA. I know to take that with a grain of salt, but some reviewers posted pictures that did look pretty bad! I think we'll stick with the Huntsman. We don't mind walking so hopefully it won't be so far that it is too inconvenient.

I was just in Galway in June. It's a very small city and very walkable. I stayed at the Western Hotel. It was a little dated, but clean, comfy and close to everything.
