The Small Museums of Paris
Thank you cigalechanta. Saving for whenever I get to taske that trip to Paris!
Sorry, take
Thanks, cigal
Thanks! I'm leaving on Thursday for Paris and some of these look very interesting.
Thanks, I'm saving this in my Paris file.
one of the reasons I visited The Museé Cernuschi is because it sits at the edge of the Parc Monceau. Ever since I saw the film, "Gigi" and Louis Jordan sang the title song in that parc, I knew I'd go there one day.
I think the recommendation to see small museums is a great one. The obvious omission from the list is the Rodin Museum, but there are many others to enjoy in addition to that list as well.
Unfortunately, the list made me realize that the next time I am in Paris, it will be a Monday and Tuesday -- when most everything is closed! |
Ness., the reason for not listing the Picasso, Rodin and Maillol is because they are so loved and well known.
My next time I want to see the 'otherworldly"home of Gustave Moreau. If you enjoy the Deyrolle shop, this should intrique you. |
The list omits the Cognacq-Jay, one of our favorites. It's in the Marais, not far from the Picasso museum. It has a small but cherce collection of paintings, drawings, and beautiful objets d'art--and you can often have the mansion to yourself.
That's another one, Underhill, I want to see and had no time. The collection by the Cognaqs who travelled around the world to bring this selection were a couple who started the (sob!) Samaritaine dept store.
The article itself mentioned the Cognac-Jay.
I thought I mention the Rodin just for Fodorites who might prefer it to the Louvre. I, too, found myself intrigued by the thought of going to the Moreau museum. I think it is open on Mondays. |
Hi cigalechanta,
Thanks for the link. I love watching the locals at play on Sun. morning in the Parc Monceau! And a resounding recommendation for brunch or lunch under the Tiepolo ceiling frescoes in the lovely dining room of the Jacquemart André! |
It's a good thing I just ordered new glasses...
In a way, I was surprised to see the Marmottan in there, as it's very well known. I was also a little surprised not to see the Guimet (Asian arts) museum. But then Paris has so many museums, it would be impossible to do justice in a short article to all the smaller but worthy museums.

Invaluable....thanks.
Thanks, Cigale. For current exhibitions (and general info), the museum's web site is also quite good:
