Your courage. I usually lurk, but once I asked how the roads in Poland were and someone told me they were OK, so we rented a car and had a great time driving in Poland.

I trust the Fodorites to give good advice and quickly too. It's just a remarkable forum. I do love the book suggestions also.

The genteel generosity of everyone.

After reading all the Fodor positive posts i'm changing my single favorite thing about Fodors.com - it's not just the Europeans i love trading ideas with but as nearly everyone said the usual genteel sense of comraderie and willingness to help others - the sense of community is now my number 1.

Kumbaya!

I love the diversity of personalities. Every board offers something else. The willingness to give makes for a great mix.
When I travel and ask for directions I can tell if the person responding wants me to have a good time or not miss some little known place. The amount of sharing comes through. I could call it "The "interest" factor".
Most here are interested in what you have to say, what you have to offer, and helpful so that you have a good safe journey with maximum enjoyment.

Doesn't this post belong in the new Fodor's "Lounge"
;-)

starrsville Oct 25th, 2006 06:56 AM

No, suze. It's on the Europe forum so it's okay.

The self confidence to book my own trips completely on my own, knowing that I have been given the best advice possible. I have made 3 European trips based on suggestions and comments from the fabulous people here and in direct proportion, the trips have been fabulous as well.

The moderators. While I don't agree with every time they move to pull or suspend a thread, and while I realize that there were some hard feelings between certain moderators and certain posters (which I hope has resolved over the passage of time) - in general, I feel one can breathe here - yet not find one's face virtually scorched by flaming threads in need of fire hoses. Their policies are a major part, I think, of why this board is so popular.

Some of the most memorable moments during my recent trips have occured in places I never would have even known about without FODORITES telling me!

Hard to say ONE thing! The PEOPLE!!

--I really enjoy mariacallas' humorous posts

--Scarlett is a dear

--mclaurie is a sweetheart with her helpful tips

I have gotten a lot of useful info here. Way to go, Fodors!

I like that you can get an answer to absolutely any question any time.

“A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture everyday in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul”. Goethe

With the help of many Fodorites, we get to do this either vicariously or in person in any country we wish.

Aside from charming, informed, fun-loving people...
I would have to say I love the CONFIDENCE bestowed before leaving for points unknown.

I just love it when I arrive at a foreign airport and, sure enough, there's the "green meeting pole" right where Fodorites said it would be!

LJ Oct 30th, 2006 07:46 AM

I love the blend of the ruthlessly pragmatic and the purely poetical that Fodors brings out in folks.

trafaelwyr Oct 30th, 2006 09:26 AM

I just come here for the punch and cookies.

but seriously, I like this site because of the many knowledgable members who impart important practical information about various destinations. Also, the trip reports. It's nice to relive someone elses trip (the good and the bad).

MaureenB Oct 30th, 2006 09:37 AM

I trust the validity of Fodorites' recommendations. They are detailed, specific and truthful. It's exceedingly helpful to have such great up-to-the-minute advice.

(Good point, Rex, about the 'perishability' of travel info.)
