The Ruben's, anyone??
 

Has anyone stayed at the Ruben's at the Palace? If so, what would you say about your stay?

You need to be more specific...you do not even say in which place this is and what it is.

The Rubens at the Palace is a terrific holtel. There are MANY threads on her about it - do a search and you'll get find lots of info. It is one of the "Fodorite favorites"

I haven't stayed there (I usually rent a flat when visiting London) but know it quite well. It is just across from the Palace grounds.

Assuming you are talking about the Ruben's in London I stayed there in Sept. 2004 with my mom and I liked the hotel. We had a room with twin beds. It was small, but clean, well decorated, the combination shower/tub was plenty big and the staff was very friendly. Check-in time is about 1pm, but I had asked at the time of booking for early check-in since we would be arriving at 10:00am and it was no problem.

The location was perfect. It was a short walk to Victoria Station, a major transportation hub and in the other direction you had Buckingham Palace, Green Park and other attractions all within walking distance. The only negative, in my opinion is that the breakfast is not worth 15 GBP. Either get it included in your rate or eat elsewhere for breakfast.

Having said all that, I did I prefer the more personal interaction with the owners of a B&B that I stayed at during a previous visit to London.

I've stayed there three times. If this is your first trip to London this is a great choice. I don't know about a personal interaction with the owners, but the concierges were very helpful and friendly to us. Also, I really enjoyed the bar in the evening. There was a great piano player and the staff was extremely accommodation. We ate dinner from the bar menu a couple of times while we listened to the musicl.

I found the walls at the Rubens to be very thin. I heard everything that went on in the adjoining room, a problem I've yet to encounter at any other London hotel. Other than that, it was a charming property.

Here is another thumbs up for the Ruben's at the Palace. Stayed their with our kids in November of 2004. Very convenient to many attractions, uniformly friendly and informative staff and clean rooms. Victoria Station is only a 2-3 blocks away and is very convenient to connections from Heathrow and Gatwick.

I have been to London many times and if money was no object (which it was one time I went there) I would stay at the Covent Garden for elegance, ambiance, and location. However, for the money you can't go wrong with Ruben's. I would stay there again if given the choice.

If you decide to stay here, this property is advertised frequently on LuxuryLink, usually 3-5 night packages for 2 with breakfast included.

Agree with above, location is central for tourists, great for a short trip.

Short trip, huh? Would you still recommend it for a 8 day?

If you haven't already look at the reviews on TripAdvisor (assuming none of them are "bogus") and you may get a better picture of this particular hotel.

You ask about 8 days. Just about ANY hotel gets old for me after a few days. The Rubens is really fine -- but for that long a visit have you considered an apartment?

You would have much more space, a kitchen. Not that you necessarily want to cook, but w/ a kitchen you wouldn't have to eat every single meal out for 8 solid days. A washer/dryer is a BIG help too.

Thanks for the recommendation janisj. We talked about it, but were nervous about a few things. Like location, or if there was a problem, do they have someone on site to help? Are there any flats/apts you could recommend?
