The Rout between Porto, Barcelona and Geneva

My friend and I are planning a trip to Portugal and Spain (and make a stop in Geneva if time allows) in June. We only have 8 days and are looking to plan in a way that would allow us to see as many cities while being on a limited budget. Would renting a car be the best way? We are flying to Porto and beginning our journey from there. Any info you can share would be much appreciated.

You do not want to rent a car in one country and drop it off in another as there would be a large drop off fee.With only 8 days, stay in Portugal which has so much to offer. Even 8 days is a short time to see the highlights of Portugal.

and make a stop in Geneva if time allows

Geneva is in Swtzerland, hundreds of miles from the closest Spanish border and even farther from Portugal.

Get a map, get some guidebooks, and start narrowing down your choices.

Swtzerland = Switzerland

Thanks Michael.

I thought it was only 387 miles from Barcelona to Geneva, at least that's what google says.

How about renting in Porto and reterning the car in Porto as well? my concern is the drive! Do u think it's too difficult? I believe the distance beteen Porto and Barcelona is 560 miles, right?

How's driving in Europe? Is it more difficult than driving in a South American countries?

Bad plan--much too far--and too expensive.
In your short time stay in Portugal---I have for over 4 weeks and still have not seen it all.

That's hundreds of miles, and a full day of driving even if using only the autoroute. What's so attractive about Geneva?

thanks all for your suggestions.

EasyJet flies from Barcelona to Geneva. Check Ryanair, they used to fly Porto to Girona and/or Barcelona

It is far too much to do in 8 days and enjoy any of the places, since you are not taking into account how much time you will lose traveling.

I was surprised how close in miles Barcelona and Geneva actually are, since they are miles apart in culture, cuisine, religion, and temprement. One day we spent a month in Geneva. People who work for the UN dread being posted to Geneva as it the model for a concrete sleep clinic.

Unless you have a friend or relative in Geneva just enjoy Portugal and Barcelona.
