The roses of Bagatelle

If you're in Paris right now and love roses, now is the time to go to Bagatelle to see them -- they won't last much longer in the heat.
I went there yesterday, and it was really lovely. There's also a lot more to Bagatelle, but I must confess that I didn't get a chance to see it.

Bus 43 from Gare du Nord goes straight there.

Just lovely, kerouac. J'adore roses! That garden looks a bit like the rose section of Kew Gardens. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'll make it out to Bois de Boulogne this time around. Isn't there a Shakespeare garden there, too?

I'd never heard of a McFlurry and had to look it up. (Of course, I haven't been to McDonald's in over a decade.)

Your mom's a kick. Now I can see where you get your 'tude!

Brilliant - just been thinking about the same mobility solution for my own mother who has the same priorities as yours.

She definitely slurps it up without comment. (I do spread paper napkins over her before the fun begins.)

I love a formal rose garden and these are beautiful pictures, but for me, no formal rose garden has ever been (or ever will be) as captivating as the wild roses on Cape Cod, especially when they're entwined with masses of honeysuckle. The combined scent of wild roses, wild honeysuckle, and a fresh, clean sea breeze is truly divine.

Glad to see that there are still roses in bloom, given the heat of the last two months. Here in the Dordogne, most of ours are over.

We went to Bagatelle this time last year, just before the
Concours International de Roses Nouvelles de Paris-Bagatelle - International Competition for New Roses, which will take place 16 June (or at lest the results will be announced then.) Anyway, it means that the roses should be at their best for that date. Highly recommended.

kerouac,

perhaps we should make a list of great european rose gardens - Paris, Florence, Baden...any other ideas?

Seppendrade's in the water castles area of Germany's Muensterland. A lovely place for bicycling and well off the usual tourist radar.

not sure about Kew, Kerouac. The RHS gardens at Rosemoor [at Great Torrington, in North Devon] certainly do, as does Wisley.

Roses don't do too well here in Cornwall, as a general rule. Possibly the air is too clean. That's probably why they do so well in Paris and Florence!

They actually grow extremely well here in the Dordogne, which has pretty clean air!

Carlux - perhaps that's the heat? I think that they do respond to warm weather better than us Brits might think.
