Pray it keeps rising!

Why, the extra 8cents of course.

Why is it the 30 cent drop in the price of gas didn't excite me but the 8 cent drop in the exchange rate did? ;-)

The USD is still very weak, but has started to gain strength after the presidential elections. It was EUR 1 = USD 1.59 in 4/2008 and is now EUR 1 = USD 1.28 . Still a far cry from EUR 1 = USD 0.97 in 2002.

Will we see a return to EUR 1 = USD 1 ?



More difficult to interpret is the GBP. The GBP has been overvalued for quite some time, so has dropped pretty rapidly against the USD & EUR.
2007 GBP 1 = USD 2+
2007 GBP 1 = EUR 1.5

Today, expect :

GBP 1 = USD 1.49
GBP 1 = EUR 1.16

Will we see EUR 1 = GBP 1 ?

My last trip to Europe was in fall of 2007. My travel companion, my sister, and I always get the same amount of money from the ATM's, and we split all expenses down the line.

We had euros and pounds left over, and since she will be unable to travel in the future due to health reasons, I bought her share of the euros and pounds--when the dollar was at its very weakest against both currencies. I think I have about 200 euros and 25 pounds tucked away for my next trip.

I've been ripped off! By my own self, though.

Peter, I have seen your same posting 3 times now--that is just not true--the dollar was down before the elections---

Peter is spot on with his dollars, pounds, euros. I bought dollars in July $1.91 for one pound. Now I can
only get $1.49 for one pound and the Euro is only 1.16 for one pound.
Most English people are not even thinking about Europe or America for a holiday in 2009, the GB£ is too weak

Sorry Peter--I meant the dollar was in the $1.25-1.30 range against the Euro...
