The Rex Hotel, Rome
 

We've purchased an independent tour of Rome, Florence and Venice through Delta Vacations. We'll be spending several days in Rome and will be staying at The Rex Hotel. I'm finding very little info on this hotel, which makes me a little nervous. Has anyone stayed there, no of it, etc.?

<BR>I've not stayed at The Rex, but have a Delta Vacations brochure which lists it. Apparently it is near the train station. From what I've read here, that can be a rather seedy area. Maybe someone else can help you further.

Hi- <BR>I don't know what happened with my first attempt to answer, but anyway-- <BR>my husband and I took the Delta trip in November 1997, and stayed at the Rex. The hotel is fine--the staff was helpful, and our room and bathroom were very nice (tv, mini-bar, nice tile bathroom, good breakfast,etc.) It is near the train station, but the neighborhood didn't seem seedy to us. Actually, we walked to the Spanish Steps and beyond, and also took the metro, which has a station close by. All the hotels on the trip were near the train stations (we took the "Italy by Train" trip), and it was convenient to be able to walk to the hotels. We really loved the trip. Don't miss the included orientation tours. They are all American Express tours in English. In Rome, our guide was a retired art history professor, and was a wealth of great information.

Thanks for your response. We're doing the same "Italy by Train" tour. I was concerned about the hotels being so near the stations, but you've eased my mind some. This is my first trip out of the U.S. and I'm trying to be as informed as I can. Thanks

Hi Shari, The seedy area they mention in the guidebooks is the southside of Termini (train station) and east of Via Cavour. <BR>Your hotel is on Via Torino the only dangerous area at night along that street is the Piazza B. Gigli, when those *rowdy* Opera fans leave the Opera House:)&lt;Joke&gt;. Regards, Walter
