The Queen Of The Big Time
 

No, no, not me. A great book written by Adriana Friagiani. It is about the life of an American Italian female, from youth until the end of her life. Just read it. Printed in 2004. Awesome book! Think a lot of you would really enjoy it.

Just finished reading this book and found it a disappointment in comparison to her Big Stone Gap trilogy: Big Stone Gap, Big Cherry Holler and Milk Glass Moon. I grew up in southwestern Virginia (Roanoke), so could identify with the stories geographically. I thought Queen of the Big Time started and ended beautifully, but never quite went anywhere in between.

Betsy, isn't it interesting how each of us has a different reaction to books, movies, travel and so on.
Perhaps what I related to was family members and family of friends who came to the US early in the last century. And also some personal things. I am from the westcoast. It wasn't the geographics that touched my heart, it was the story.
I have not read the other books but am going to check them out as soon as I return "The Queen Of The Big Time" back to the library.
I still think that anyone who had family that grew up in an "Italian community" after arriving in Italy would relate to this book. But perhaps not. But I sure did.

Just a minor point if you're looking for the other books: her last name is Trigiani. I only know this because I used to work with one of her sisters, way back in a past life. I haven't read the book, but now that you mention it, maybe I'll put it on my list!
