The Northern Lights lit up Oslo's skies
 

Just in case you have not catch just how unusual this ocurrence is, Oslo is South Norway....way South for the Northern Lights!!:o :-/ While some long time locals say it is not unusual to see some manifestation, it appears this year was very bright and strange.

This is one thing that I still have to check on my To Do List!!:-D

I also have a life-long wish (and goal) to see the Northern Lights. My sisters were fortunate to see this phenomonon in Alaska last year.

My parents tell us that they used to see them occasionally as far south as where they grew up in Eastern Kentucky. Do you think they really were seeing the Northern Lights? Do they really appear that far south occasionally?

Yes, they probably did see them in Kentucky. I used to see them in Rhode Island. Now I think that there is too much light pollution at night. Sometimes now I see what I think are Northern Lights but they are nowhere near what they used to be.

My mother and her family claimed they once saw the Northern Lights from Lodi, CA when she was a young girl. I wish I could see the Northern Lights, that would be fabulous.

It is no at all uncommon to experience the Northen Lights in the Oslo area (som 60 degree northern latitude. It will, however, very rarely be as brilliant and long-lasting compared with futher north. And it depends of fairly high solar activity, darkness and low temperatures. I've heard that the pheomena also may be experienced quite often in the northern parts of the British Isles as well.
