The movie Amélie

Hi all, has anyone seen the movie Amélie ?

I want to know where is the river located in the scene where Amélie and her mother releases the pet fish into the river. Is it in paris ? Montmarte ?

Thanks :)

It is the canal that leads from the Seine, through the Bastille area, up to the Parc de Villette. I don't have any links saved now, but if you do a google search (and maybe a search here) for "amelie's paris) you can find some articles that go into more detail.

You can take a canal tour up this canal, and it is pretty interesting. Part of it is under the streets, and part is above ground. I don't know the exact location where that scene was filmed, though.

I recently read "The Secret Life of the Seine". Can't remember the author. Gave a good historical and current overview from the point of view of someone living on a boat in the river. It did mention how the canal got covered over, etc.

Yep stormygirl, that's the name of the canal! :)

It certainly is the Canal St Martin and it is a wonderful destination for a nightime picnic with a bottle of wine, maybe a little candle ;) Lots of families and groups of friends around with kids on rollerblades. One of my favorite spots in the city.
