The Mousetrap or Play that goes Wrong?
 

Heading to London in early July with my husband and 12 year old daughter. We already have theater tickets to see Matilda and was thinking of possibly doing a second night at the theater during the week we are in London. My daughter enjoys mysteries, adventure and comedy so was thinking either to see The Mousetrap or The Play that goes Wrong. I realize both of these plays have been running a long time so my thought was to check day of to see what is available to see if we can get discounted tickets, however I heard that its very rare for The Mousetrap to be discounted and it usually sells out. Anyone happen to know if that is true?

The Mousetrap also seems to offer Monday night shows, which was a pleasant surprise since most plays are dark that night.

Any thoughts or suggestions about whether to get tickets in advance or try for discounted tickets when we are in London?

I liked The Mousetrap much better than The Play That Goes Wrong but my husband preferred The Play That Goes Wrong. He thought TPTGW was very funny but I'm not a big fan of farce and prefer mystery stories.

I realize the above is not very helpful. Perhaps you'll have time to see both? You can purchase tickets for both plays on their theatre websites. It looks like different shows of The Mousetrap have different pricing depending on the day of the week. Someone else here may be able to help with more information about possible discounts. Actually, the mousetrap doesn't regularly sell out but they have a policy of not discounting tickets. It has been running for decades - 70+ years so far. It's certainly worth a go.


TPTGW is absolutely hysterical - one must enjoy (and understand) British farce but it really is wonderful.


If it was me I'd book TPTGW, but you know your family and I don't

I have seen both. Play that goes wrong, more fun, but both are obviously worthwhile

I have seen both. Took my kids to see Mousetrap when they were about 9-10 and they enjoyed it. A nice introduction to theatre. Think they would have also enjoyed The play that goes wrong

Thank you all! They book look great, so I decided to ask my daughter and let her choose. She said while they both look good, her first choice would be The Mousetrap, so I might just go ahead and book tickets before we arrive. Looking forward to it!

Rather than either of those, have you looked at Witness for the Prosecution? It's another Agatha Christie but not tired like the Mousetrap, staged in the old council chamber of County Hall. You can often get discounted tickets.
