I'm just wondering if you approached this trip with a budget in mind. Part of helping other tourists would be to give budget information. Missing a flight usually adds an enormous cost. When you add in hotel suites,big shopping trips, etc. it would seem this is a very expensive trip.
Are you willing to give a budget amount?
It just seems to be adding up to thousands.

My son is in London and he said weather was like jamikins noted. Hope it improves.

We stayed at your hotel when it was under different ownership and had not yet been refurbished. We liked the location and were so surprised when my daughter studied for a semester in London that her residence was right around the corner (on Manson.) You are very close to the Victoria and Albert museum which has many interesting collections and the Natural History museum (which I haven't been to) as well.

SoCal, I read the planning threads and everyone stressed packing lightly.

I also would not bring a lot of toys and use the opportunity to purchase some small toys upon arrival. Picking up something along the way is fun for the children and a good way to occupy them. This trip is not all about adults.

Packing lightly is always a good idea; once you start shopping lightly goes out the window, especially when you are at the start of a multi-week journey. That was my only point.

crazy, i'm sure you exist and I'm not being at all judgemental, I just want to know what was said when you got back from the travel agent's on the friday am and said that you'd got the flight time wrong.

I like the idea of buying a few small new toys for the kids. They would be great to pull out of the backpack when they are getting ansy or bored. Something new will be exciting and keep their attention.

I would not however buy them at Harrods...yikes, have you seen their prices?

Hmmm, like crazy's husband mine is also an Australian school principal and he doesn't earn anywhere enough for us to be able to waste the cost of airfares from Australia to Europe without flinching.

Anyway..... I hope that's the biggest drama of the trip and that the rest is smooth sailing.

Aramis, I think doppio was merely pointing out the obvious, and made a reference to other people he knew. You, on the other hand have a habit of being nasty to other posters here without trying to help. Doppio has made many recommendations over the past several months, and you have done nothing but use these threads to act above it all and attack others.

I wonder who you are, defending this woman's frantic behavior, indecision and devil may care attitude at every turn, in all of these threads, hmmmmm? Like a loyal dog, snapping at the heels if anyone who dares to question her or her decisions. It's a bit odd, really.

I'm sure she realizes missing the flight could have been avoided, and I'm certain that all flight and train times will be double checked from now on.

It would be nice if the more experienced travellers on this forum could stick to giving advice where needed.

When I visit a place where I want to shop (like NYC), I take hardly anything at all, and buy there. And her mom is going home earlier, maybe she can take some things back home for her.
The Science Museum has a good shop, with some cool stuff for kids.
