"The Italian Job" for Venice scenery
Somebody else may already have posted this information recently, but if not here it is: the movie "The Italian Job", now available for rental, has some great scenery of Venice. Much of the movie takes place in L.A, but the first 20 minutes or so are great pictures of Venice. The movie itself is not bad, much less violent than this sort of thing can be, and generally light-hearted.

another great couple of films for Venice senery are probably well known, but they are Talented Mr. Ripley and Bread and Tulips (Pane e Tulipani).

Add to the list: "Wings of a Dove"

what other good films would you reccommend for scenery? I liked The Son's Room, but only if you have been to Ancona. Also that recent film Under the Tuscan Sun was good if only for the scenery: nice views of Florence when she arrives, and also beautiful countryside in Tuscany.

One of the best movies for scenery of Venice is Summertime (Katharine Hepburn, 1955).

I was amazed at footage shot in Venice for Italian Job. Looked like those speed boat chases were zipping around the canals; risky proposition.
If you'd like to view still shots, another poster recently shared his pics of Venice, Bailey's new Photos of Venice!! >>> http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34459669 Or go directly to website that he lists, www.pbase.com/baileyzim |
Yes, I've posted before those opening scenes are in Campo San Barnaba. There are several very long threads on movies (and books) set in various places. Try a text search for movies set in Italy.
