I had a healthy back bag and the strap broke right off while I was using it.
I like Eagle Creek bags best so far because they are so durable and so well organized. Good luck Melodie! |
Marilyn,
yes, i used the F-cut option on the website to make my own. you can actually choose the lorry tarps and "cut" them as you wish for each part of your bag to make it completely personalised. it arrived from their factory in switzerland in a couple weeks with no problem. like with everything, it has spawned some imitators but freitag is the original and i believe the only one who uses real european lorry tarps. |
I did mess around with the "make your own" option. Very cool website. How much is that in "real money?" And is the bag well-made?

I, too, would like to know how much that bag is in dollars. It appears to be well made and is certainly different.

Add me to the healthy backpack non-fans. I have the large black in the microfiber. I'm relatively short, and it really is too long for me from under the arm to the hip. And when you try to use it as a backpack, the zipper cuts you across the back of the neck. I use mine occasionally as a day pack for trips out to WDW. It does hold quite a bit, but I'm looking for something more along the lines of a messenger bag or a smaller bag that fits across the body and flat in the front, like maybe this Fossil bag.
http://www.fossil.com/shopping/produ...ctedcolor=1836 Although Fossil has a lot of nice messenger bags out right now too. I'm also interested in the Freitag bag - first time I've seen them! TinaLee |
freitag ....i think it was about €150 which would make it about US$175. it's very well made. had it for over two years and it still has a lot of life left and i use it a lot. it is made from used tarps so the material does have somewhat of a rawness to it...however, the workmanship (stitching, etc) is very well done. i highly recommend it.

I carry the Healthy Back Bag (microfiber, small) as my daily purse and have for years. My mother carries the medium one. When I travel, I borrow the medium from her as my day pack.
But we learned a secret when we first started using them: Buy the one from LL Bean. It has a different strap from the standard ones which is more padded. It makes a lot of difference. And while leather may be more stylish, it adds quite a bit to the weight so I recommend the microfiber. A friend of mine liked my bag so much, she bought one and has been using one ever since. When she had her first child, she bought the healthy bag diaper bag and is now getting ready to use it for her second child as well. I know everyone is different, but I really think this is the best, most comfortable bag I've ever used. Occasionally, I will try to use a more stylish bag, but have to go back to my HBB. |
While in San Francisco with a purse that was too small, I bought a Healthy Bag. At first, it seemed really neat with all those compartments. But, once filled up, getting to things is awkward and inconvenient, especially as it's not really well balanced. On a walking tour, I unzipped the main compartment to get something and then entire contents fell out and into a puddle.
