There's quite a bit of England in the old Confederacy. England supported the South in our Civil War -- not officially, but virtually everything that was manufactured for the South came from England, including their entire Navy -- the ships and the sailors both. Some of the naval battles were fought off the coast of Britain, not America.

to sort of get your thread back on track - as CW and others have mentioned, the RAH is not in a pub-ish neighborhood. If you need to whet/wet your whistles, and can't walk very far, I'd suggest going to a nice pub elsewhere and then just take a cab to the RAH.
