The French Army Knife...

Switzerland has their iconic Swiss Army Knife with a mind-boggling number of tools on it - aknife, can opener, cork screw, nail cleaner, etc.

I've heard that France has the French Army Knife - is it true that I can buy a French Army Knife where any of the dozen or so things you can pull out are all cork screws?

(Credit to 60 Minutes that I just watched!)

Without the knife, you'd be forced to break the neck, which has happened a few times.

The French Army Knife is a joke. That being said, make sure you get a legit one that includes a pop out white flag.

Yes, that is as funny as saying that the American army knife has a napalm squirter to use on children.

I would have said the American army knife had a gun attached to it.

As amusing as it may be, I don't really get the whole French surrender thing. People who buy into it are woefully ignorant of history.

You did not hear of the pre-emptive surrender to Germans in WW2?

France has in fact got a pretty impressive military history, especially between the period 1790-1812. And 1914-18 as well - the German army paid a high price for its attack on France then.

You did not hear of the pre-emptive surrender to Germans in WW2?

I guess not. The 360,000 casualties in May-June 1940 must have been from fighting off them pesky Italians.

sparkchaser - yes I realize that - well not the exact numbers - but this whole idea is just for fun not fact. The stereotype that 'France surrenders" often is just that.

France with its 'force de frappe' is still one of the world's major major military powers.

Sorry, I misunderstood your sarcasm.
