The Euro sign?

Where do I find the little Euro sign on my computer??? Thank you!

ckenb Feb 17th, 2005 04:02 AM

On your keyboard, make sure NumLock is turned on (there's usually a little light). Then hold down the Alt key and type 0128 on the numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard.

If that doesn't work, copy and paste this one, and save it for later use.

€

OK! The alt thing works! Thanks.

nonnafelice Feb 17th, 2005 04:40 AM

ckenb's reply is for Windows. If you have a Mac, type shift-option-2 for € . But if you're going to England, option-3 on the Mac gives you this: £

Does anyone know how to make the pound sign in windows?

mr_milione_miglia Feb 17th, 2005 05:04 AM

Alt 156

P_M Feb 17th, 2005 05:14 AM

It works--Thanks.

Another way to get the euro sign is to type

& and the word euro and ;

after the number, leaving no spaces.

29 & euro ; without any spaces looks like this: 29€

Hey this is great, with different combinations there are all kinds of symbols. Does anyone know where to find the master plan (on Windows) of all the possibilities?

Robespierre Feb 17th, 2005 06:25 AM

The best way is to use the HTML codes.

<b>&amp;euro;
&amp;pound;</b>

The rest are at

StCirq Feb 17th, 2005 06:41 AM

I use Ctrl/Alt/5 to make the euro sign. Faster than typing &amp;euro

Robespierre Feb 17th, 2005 06:49 AM

Well, you can use Ctrl/Alt/5 and it may show up on your screen, but it may not render on every browser on every computer/OS.

HTML is a cross-platform standard. That's why I said it's the <u>best</u> way.

Thanks, Robespierre. I bookmarked that handy site for reference.

ckenb Feb 17th, 2005 07:53 AM

In Windows there's a little application called Character Map that lets you see and choose all kinds of special characters.

It's at Start &gt; All Programs &gt; Accessories &gt; System Tools &gt; Character Map.

Or use the Run... command and type charmap.exe (or just charmap).

Robespierre Feb 17th, 2005 07:55 AM

<b>charmap</b> produces the Windows codes for special characters. They may or may not display correctly on non-Windows computers (or even on Windows computers, for that matter).

Use of charmap characters is not recommended.

This looks like a variation of How many Fodorites does it take to screw in a lightbulb.

TracyB Feb 17th, 2005 08:19 AM

£ I can't believe it..I have always wondered how to do this but never got around to finding out how...
&euro; And that works too!!

dln Feb 17th, 2005 08:21 AM

Too funny, Kate! Or it might be a case of definitively stating that 'your' way is the best is what causes the furor. You'll notice that I posted the same thing as Robespierre did, <i>before he did</i> but I neglected to add any editorialization.

Maybe Robespierre is onto something here. I think I'm going to have to start adding in my opinions to facts and see what happens. :D

ckenb Feb 17th, 2005 08:31 AM

Robespierre,

You say &quot;Use of charmap characters is not recommended.&quot;

Who recommends against them and why? They seem to work. Or do people on Macs see something different when I use those characters?

Robespierre Feb 17th, 2005 08:45 AM

Fact: &amp;euro; always works.
Fact: Ctl/Alt/5 doesn't.
Fact: charmap doesn't.
Fact: Alt-0128 doesn't.

Opinion: the way that always works is the best way. As I said on 12/4/2004 on this thread:
