The drive from Rome to Cinque Terre.

We are thinking about tacking onto a conference in Florence next year a little R&R, thought we might drive ourselves from Rome airport along the coast to the southern start of Cinque Terre and then do some walking before taking a train to Florence, any insights would be helpfull for the advanced planning, we are looking at the end of September next year.

Hi Marko,

It's funny that I found your post..I was just describing my drive to Vernazza in another post. We picked our car up in downtown Rome, with no problems at all, and drove to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. We spent the night and visited Pompeii the next day, after which we drove to and stayed in Orvieto. From there we visited Pisa and then on to Vernazza and the Cinque Terre. We had alot of fun and the driving was easy, except for the narrow mountain road leading to Vernazza.
You could easily pick up your car and visit Sienna or Pisa and then head over to the CT. You could drop the car in La Spezia and take the train in to the little villages and do some hiking. Sounds fun to me.. Have fun
