The Dordogne - A Pictoral Trip Report
I don't have the time to write up a formal trip report but I thought I'd share the photos at least. A high level overview of the trip, I flew into Bordeaux on 9/17/2016 and spent two nights there. I then drove to Perigueux for 3 nights with day trips to the surrounding area. I was then off to Sarlat for 4 nights with day trips, followed by 2 nights in Figeac, 1 night in Cahors and back to Bordeaux for a night to fly out the next morning.
This album represents most of my favorite photos from the trip so you can start there. Following will be links to specific days if you want to dig deeper.

Jump, we're with you on the time it takes to write a formal report. Many competing forces in life!
Really enjoy your terrific photos! Thanks for posting them. We recognize some areas from our recent trip, and are in the throes of finalizing our report. Need to forge on lest we lose focus.

Brilliant photos! I noticed that many had still water for reflections. Were you up early before the breezes stirred or were you just lucky (and smart enough to take advantage of auspicious circumstances)?
Thanks for sharing!

Absolutely gorgeous shots, jump. Thank you. I think I know every single one of those houses, streets, castles, gardens, rivers, etc., that you shot, and am just blessed to live in this stunning part of the world, where every day is a photographer's dream.

Great photos! I'm working on an itinerary which includes a return visit to Dordogne, but with less time than you had. My feeling is, all the places you went look great, but is there anywhere you would definitely include or leave out with less time?

Thanks again for the comments everyone! sundriedtopepp, that is a hard one. The logical one seems to leave out Perigueux and the involved day trips but I loved Bourdeilles and Brantôme, and Chateau Hautefort was one of my favorite Chateaus to visit as it was a self tour. I could have done without Figeac but I chose that for the drive along the two rivers. The day trip I did out of Figeac could just have easily been done out of Sarlat. I could have left Cahors out as well but it was a semi-logical choice for a night as it allowed me to explore without feeling rushed and the Pont Valentré bridge was worth a photo stop.
I also chose to not visit Rocamadour (other than the distant photographs). I read mixed reviews on it and the impression I had was it is packed with tourists. There were other villages I knew I wanted to take in where I wouldn't have that problem. I was practically alone in Carennac, Loubressac and Autoire.
StCirq, I am envious! And in addition to the beautiful scenery I found the French people to be very kind, helpful, patient, warm, accommodating and just very happy people (I can't blame them)!
megdean, I use a Nikon D90. It is getting a little old and with the continual advancements, I'm probably due for an upgrade.

Your photos are fabulous! Just drenched with color, and a vivid reminder of all the places we have seen on two trips to the area.
I loved Bourdeilles and Brantome. We had lunch at the Relais Chateaux and Found Bourdeilles on the way back

Jump, your photos are gorgeous! Are you a professional photographer? It's not just the camera that is good; you have a great eye for composition and detail.
We visited the Dordogne in May 2015, so your photos bring back wonderful memories. We really enjoyed the castles, caves, Brantome and Sarlat. Also stopped in some of the small towns that you photographed.
